imo if Jane Espenson's involved it should help the project. I remember her name being attached to Battlestar Galactica and I loved that series.

Anyone Can Die In 'Torchwood'
Series will have a more American feel with 'Miracle Day'

Sure, John Barrowman brings a touch of American class to the show but the overall scope, scale and style of storytelling demonstrated by the series always strives for the entertainment levels offered by American science-fiction. However, in the upcoming fourth season, the series may begin to feel more like an American series made for British television.

"Russell [T. Davies] and Julie Gardner remain in charge," writer John Fay said. "[But] there are more American characters in it, so obviously it'll probably feel more American."

In the series, Capt. Jack (Barroman) and Gwen (Eve Myles) cross the pond in order to investigate a global miracle that takes place when the world is rendered immortal. There are no deaths and no births and it is left to Capt. Jack and Gwen to find out why.

The writing team for the series was made up of talent from the United Kingdom and America, meaning that both approaches to storytelling with be included. One such approach is Jack's immortality thanks to the Bad Wolf - in most drama shows the thrill and excitement comes from the possibility that our heroes could die at any moment. But on a series like "Torchwood" where that simply cannot happen the writers need to rely on other areas to ramp up the tension.

And Fay warns that anyone can die in "Torchwood."

"A universe in which fictional characters aren't 'allowed' to die is ridiculous and limiting," he argued. "When death is a reality in a drama, the jeopardy is greater [and] the stakes are greater. In Torchwood, anyone can die. That's a good thing."

BBC has not yet confirmed when "Torchwood: Miracle Day" will premiere on BBC One. Although Starz, the American premium cable channel that picked up the show, has yet to confirm when the series will air in the United States, the broadcast dates are expected to be relatively close thanks to the joint production deal between both channels.

The eighth week of production on Torchwood saw a couple of new guest stars join the show, which was mainly based at the Warner Brothers sets for the week, though the cast did get out and about at airy heights of the US Bank Tower and the subterranean depths of a ... parking garage! The end of the week also saw a publicity shoot for the show take place.

Cast name-checked this week included John Barrowman, Eve Myles, Bill Pullman, and Lauren Ambrose, though others of course worked throughout the week, including guest stars Christopher Thomas Howell (The Outsiders, Criminal Minds, Southland, The Amazing Spider Man) and Ernie Hudson (Ghostbusters, Desperate Housewives, Transformers Prime).


Writer John Fay was interviewed by the Liverpool Daily Post on Wednesday, during which he answered a number of questions about the new series:

•How many eps? Just the one. Episode Nine of ten.
•I can tell you a lot of my ep is set in Wales, and has already been shot.
•Russell and Julie Gardner remain in charge, so I think it'll still have the same basic tone. There are more American characters in it, so obviously it'll probably feel more American.
•(on Russell as a re-writer) Ep 2 of COE is all mine I think. He moved a bit of his ep 5 onto the back of my Ep 4, and wrote an extra scene between the PM and his adviser, but that was pretty much it. I can't speak for the new series yet because I haven't seen it. With RTD it's not a problem. Apart from anything else, he's a great writer and he's the boss. I have been re-written by some lesser writers in the past though. And that does piss you off!
•Russell's been putting the arm on me to represent Torchwood at something called Kapow! in London. In ongoing discussions with Mrs Fay......
•I keep getting a "what's your favourite Torchwood character box" flashing up on my screen and poor old Rhys is in last place on 0%! For the record - he's my favourite! So that breaks his duck!

Finally, another member of the cast who filmed earlier in the schedule was named by the After Elton website; actor Dillon Casey (pictured right with John Barrowman courtesy of Shawna Trpcic back in Week Five filming) is playing the character of Brad. Casey has recently been seen as Noah in The Vampire Diaries.

The American television channel Starz has made the long-awaited announcement of when it will debut the new, glossy season of Torchwood. Season 4 of the science fiction series, subtitled Miracle Day, will premiere on July 8, according to TVLine.

Torchwood is a Doctor Who spin-of that started life on the BBC. The series stars John Barrowman as Captain Jack Harkness, who runs a branch of the Torchwood Institute out of Cardiff in Wales. Torchwood is a clandestine organization that counters threats to Earth. Miracle Day is a co-production between BBC Wales, BBC Worldwide and Starz.

In its short history Torchwood hasn't shied away from controversy or big ideas. Season 4 looks like being broader in scope than anything we've seen before. For one thing, it has a global flavor, with a revamped Torchwood team stopping off in Los Angeles and possibly other international locations. The idea underlying Miracle Day also deals with some profound issues.

"The theme is something that's going to affect... and touch everybody," star Eva Myles recently told DigitalSpy. "Everybody's going to relate [to it]."

Showrunner Russell T. Davies gave more away at the Television Critics Association in January.

"[T]he premise is a miracle that happens to the world. It’s as simple as this, that one day on Earth no one dies. Not a single person on Earth dies. The next day no one dies. The next day no one dies and on and on and on. Now, the sixth day, the old stay old and keep getting older. The dying keep dying, but no one quite dies. The possibility of death ceases to exist."
