THE Federal Government is about to announce Australia's biggest military build-up since
World War II, including 100 new F-35 fighter planes.

The multi-billion-dollar investment in maritime defence, including the F-35 stealth plane, a doubling of the submarine fleet, and powerful new surface warships.

The new defence white paper will outline plans for a fundamental shake-up of Australia's defence organisation to ensure that the nation can meet what Prime Minister Kevin Rudd sees as a far more challenging and uncertain security outlook in Asia over the next two decades, The Australian reports.

It is in response to China's growing military might and the prospect of Asian powers being in sharper strategic competition.

Still a sleek aircraft though. Hmmm.... F35....

Nah, I still think the f-22A is far sexier, and it has far better performance. But is also way more expensive.

The American built F-22 & F-35 are both a heap of shiit.

Australia should not buy such inferior rubbish.

The Russian-built Sukhoi fighter Jet is vastly superior to the U.S built JSF.

U.S.A built fighter jets 'clubbed' by Russians

September 11, 2008

The Australian federal opposition has dismissed new doubts about the capacity of the multi-billion dollar Joint Strike Fighter to perform against jets used by Russia and China.

The JSF jets, for which Australia is likely to pay $16 billion, were comprehensively beaten in highly classified simulated dogfights against Russian-built Sukhoi fighter aircraft, it has been reported.

The war games, conducted at Hawaii's Hickam airbase last month, were witnessed by at least four RAAF personnel and a member of Australia's peak military spy agency, the Defence Intelligence Organisation, The West Australian said.

Opposition defence spokesman Nick Minchin said he was taking "with a grain of salt" the validity of the report.

"This is based on a computer game, computer modelling of the aircraft," he told Sky News.

"This is not real life."

Senator Minchin said he had a classified briefing on the JSF from its US manufacturer Lockheed-Martin which had promoted the aircraft as the most advanced jet fighter ever.

"I can't really say much about it, but this is a phenomenal aircraft.

"As our chief of defence Angus Houston has said this is a most extraordinary aircraft, it is the right aircraft for Australia."

The multi-purpose fighter would be the backbone of the United States military, Senator Minchin said.

"We are fortunate to be in it and the government should move to make the decision to acquire it."

WA Liberal backbencher Dennis Jensen said he had spoken to a third party with knowledge of the final classified test results who had claimed the JSF had been clubbed like baby seals by the simulated Sukhois, The West Australian reported.

A response was been sought from the government.

American military hardware certainly has gone to the dogs. It seems not a week goes by without hearing of another aircrash without a weapon being fired.

Russian stuff is not so refined, but it is stronger - and it works by brute force.

Personally I wouldn't worry about Chinese jet fighters too much. They have certainly purloined the latest tech (c/o Israel), but as anything made in China it'll be prone to malfunction and falling to bits (when you most need it).

What's Australia's native airborne weaponry like? Is it still a beer-bottle (empty of course) sailing through the air or have some of you sobered up enough to fling them from ultralights powered by old lawnmowers?

The Lighting II is designed to be cheap, and is not the best air superiority fighter available. But it's far far cheaper then the f-22, which I believe is the best air superiority fighter available, and as a result far more numerous.

That the Rusky Sukhoi beat the f-22 and the f-35 in a computer simulation isn't of much consequence, really. Because in another simulation it was said that the F-22 beat the Sukhoi something ridiculous like 8:1. It's a computer game.

Your rigt Australia has no military (nuclear & military ambiguity).
Thats why sooooooo many countries have invaded Australia & taken our land & seas.

Keep in mine Australia is a nation the size of the USA but with only 20 million people, so why do other countries invade us.

Australia has no navy ........... yet controles around 60% of the worlds sea's

How can this be.

Since World War II, the ocean has been dominated by India and Australia.

http://www.newworldencyclopedia.org/entry/Indian_Ocean

The Pacific Ocean is the largest of the Earth's oceanic divisions. Its name is derived from the Latin name Mare Pacificum, "peaceful sea", bestowed upon it by the Portuguese explorer Ferdinand Magellan. It extends from the Arctic in the north to Antarctica in the south, bounded by Asia and Australia in the west

Australian ocean holdings.

The Indian Ocean

The Pacific Ocean.

The Arafura Sea

The Timor Sea

The Antarctic Ocean and the South Polar Ocean, comprises Australia's southernmost waters ...

Australia controles 50%-60% of the worlds Ocean, & has no Navy.

(how)

The USA has the worlds Largest navy ....... & is a land locked nation between Canada & Mexico ..........

& then there is Japan .......

Who Australia has already beaten in war' that many times it's not funny.
