I am moving to Minnesota by the fall.
H got a promotion and now we're northern bound (shiver)

Winter will be a big shock, it you have only lived in California Bionic. I grew up in Buffalo, but I;m to used to sunny California, to go back to shoveling snow. I'd like to see Minnesota, I;m sure its beautiful and a fishermans paradise. Plus it has Sandra!

We actually moved to So-Cal from there in 1996
I lived all over New York state from 1989 to 1996..plus, I had lived in Chicago in my teens and Kansas in my youth..so I know about winter..I actually use to kinda like winter..but we have lived here so long..I have become so week and spoiled..ugh
But a part of me is looking forward to it..I use to feel very proud of how I could tough out winter and was a good snow driver..I feared no snow storm..but that was a LONG time ago
Also..there is nothing like a wintery Christmas..I always planned to have Christmas up a Big Bear at some point so my son could really appreciate a snowy Christmas..but never got around to it. I guess now it's a moot point.

I read that Minneapolis is a town that people fear to move to, but most, once there and acclimated, never want to leave
Hope that is my case..if not..hubby will be putting in transfers to here and other warm places and we will wait it out.

This will be an adventure..and I am overdue for a fun adventure like this...I think it will be good for my kid, too.
I see that Minnesota is one of those states that is cool with homeschooling and since that is what I am doing with my son (at least for the next few years) that will make it easier..out here I had to go through a charter school because i am not a licensed teacher

Wow, how cool. I lived in Kenmore until I was 13, a long long time ago. Been in California since 1960. Mrs. G2 grew up in New Jersey, so we both grew up with snow. I had the same thoughts about a Christmas someplace in the mountains like Big Bear, so the kids would know what waking up to a new snow fall is. So we have missed that a lot, and our kids have only gone to the snow a few times. Minnesota, and the movie Grumpy old men reminded me of the kind of neightborhood I lived in. Small houses, just like the movie, the same kind of snow level, and a little local tavern just down the street walking, like it was part of the residential tracts. You don;t see those kind of neighborhood places in California. I'm sure Minnesota is going to be a great adventure in your life. Don't forget the Blackvault, when you get settled there.

That happened to me once, on Christmas of all days. I was seven, and we had gone up to Chico, CA for the winter to visit my aunt and uncle. Woke up on Christmas day, ran to the tree, only to look over and see white everywhere. Went outside and forgot all about my presents. All I wanted to do was try and make snowmen and throw snowballs at 'em.

When I was a kid in Buffalo, and my wife in New Jersey, you would goto sleep and knew the first snow was on the way. We didn;t have the kind of weather reports you have today. You went to bed with green grass, and woke up to a 2 feet of snow. First thing you did was get the radio on to hear your school was closed. I have seen snow only a few times in the San Fernando Valley in almost 50 years, and if you get 1-2 inches (yes,inches), its melted by 9am, but they freak out and close all the schools, like it was a Blizzard. Its really a joke, when you know what real snow is like.
