This insult to the Lakotah by the US 7th Cavalry should not be hidden from the public. Its as bad as if the USA flew an unnanounced B-52 Formation low over Hiroshima & Nagasaki In early August. Or Italian troops marched through Bethlaham at Christmas, Al-Qaeda held a parade at the World Trade Center. Its as bad as the KKK lighting crosses on the whitehouse lawn during the Obama administration, or Ariel Sharon visiting Temple Mount. I'm seriously considering giving our president an earful, in writing, about this rude insult to the Lakotah that has happened under his watch.

Unfortunately they did not communicate their intentions well to their people, and unfortunately they did recognize that it is extremely difficult to start a healing process whne one party still harms the other. Its more important to stop the harm being caused first before binding the wound so it can be healed, otherwise it is like trying to stop river by making a dam out of water.

I agree of course, and obviously it was not just miscommunication, it shows how much
people are really not ready for something like that, either way, it was not appropriate for any reason to have the 7th cavalry landing near wounded knee, thats just wrong all around, and what type of leadership as a cheif would invite that on any occasion? I'm sure that the elders in the tribe were outraged regardless of the intentions of the meeting, there were other ways this could have taken place....now its most likely another set back, things get stirred.

I'm not so sure its a set back, it started a movement to ask Obama to rescind the Congressional Medals of Honor given out for the massacre. If that can garner enough media attention it might wake people up to the continuing trouble the US has been causing. After all its definately more important than the nonsense being bandied about by the so called Tea Parties, instead of the misconception that things are fine because of the Casinos. But we are dealing with major networks which would rather not look at our country's continous shame in US Native American relations. On the other hand the US is so right left war on anything the other party brings up attention could actually make things worse.

needs to be dealt with....true. I appreciate the news on this because I had not
heard anything. I'm wondering what they plan on doing in that lakota community now, will there be another meeting set up or have they halted it altogether. hmmm just kind of curious how the community is feeling now, that was a scare for some of those people.

Yeah I signed it too, and sent the link to everyone in my address book. Hopefully it will act like chain mail and put some pressure on the Feds to right some wrongs.

I just looked at the petition numbers its been around over a decade and it has less than 6000 signatures today. This is sad....

Americans can be stirred so easily to react violently, but peacefully ask them to help right a wrong done to others and so many of them turn away...

I remember in sociology class being told questionaire returns were terribly difficult to get good percentages of returns, but this petition is just name and email address and a plea to pass it on, not 70 questions. Your name doesn't even have to be for online viewing it can be anonymous. Yet this petition has fewer signatures nationwide than it takes to get a presidential candidate on a state ballot. I'm actually aghast and taken back not even personally recognizing atleast one signature (other than knowing Sandra signed it too .)

This was a good idea. But as always the military went about it in the wrong way. You don't attended a peace conference in a way that makes it look like you are mounting another attack. The proper way to have done it would have been to take a truck or two with unarmed soldiers, that way the two sides could sit down peacefully and get to know each other. Only then could they "start the healing process".


I also signed the petition. Giving the Medal of Honor to the butchers of Wounded Knee, dishonors every veteran who legitimately earned it. If they are giving those medals for that kind of action, they may as well give one to Jeffery Daumer and Ted Bundy.
