I didn't know about solid state drives until a few days ago. This one has benched at about 200 mb/s speed...what I got now transfers at 80 mb/s. The OS is supposed to load really fast as well as all programs loading fast. fyi, SSD's have NO moving parts so no noise and nothing to wear out.

Two Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB hard disks for the storage of all my media... I bought a 1TB WD drive about 6 months ago and it's practically full... Like the twilight zone complete series of 156 episodes takes about 30GB. And that's just ONE Tv show out of many so I need the storage.

Now I wait for money to fall from the sky to pay for all this.

Get 2 64GB SSDs and RAID 0 them together. Same thing with the hard drives.

Tell me more about RAID.

How do I start my research on how set it up? Got any links? I know what RAID does but I've never used it. Is this something I do before I install the OS?

Well, I'm not a RAID expert but...

Yes, you set it up before you install the OS. You need a RAID controller. Luckily, most high end mobo's today have one or more on the board so read the instructions for the mobo. You might be able to download the manual before buying the mobo. Otherwise you have to buy a RAID controller and they can be expensive.

RAID is definitely faster, RAID 0 is what most home users need. It gangs 2 or more drives together and spreads the data across them. But with RAID 0 you don't lose any drive space. With higher levels RAIDs you do.

If you are using a RAID controller on the mobo, the first time you turn the system on the bios boot should present you a menu and ask you if you want to set up RAID.

Lastly, the drives have to be the same, if I'm not mistaken. The real question is whether or not your RAID controller will let you setup more than one RAID (e.g. one for your SSDs and another for the HD's). RAID has been used on servers for decades but they do it more for reliability than for speed.
