World War I veteran Henry Allingham is the world's oldest man following the death of a 113-year-old in Japan, Guinness World Records has confirmed.

Mr Allingham, one of only two surviving WWI veterans in the UK and the last surviving founder member of the RAF, was born on 6 June 1896.

He was born in Clapton, London, and now lives at St Dunstan's Centre for blind ex-service personnel near Brighton.

Can you imagine what this man has seen? In his lifetime we’ve gone from steam power to nuclear power. We’ve gone from the old empires to landing on the moon. He’ll know stories from his farther and his grandfather that cannot be found anywhere else other than inside his mind.

Amazing.

What a wonderful life is right. Is he also the last person living born in the 1800's?

No there are a few others but there aren’t as many as there was a few years ago sadly :( . I think three (English) people over 110 died last year. It’s amazing that they lived that long though isn’t it?
