Did your child's mother contract the flu during her pregnancy?

Says it's 4 times more likely for the child to develop the constellation of symptoms known as bipolar disorder if mom had the flu.

I think everyone knows pregnant Mothers should do their best to avoid any sickness, and many things are well known to affect the fetus especially at certain times. One thing we do know each year is the flu vaccines changes, because they say the flu mutates every year, into something different and new, and worse. Therefore does this theory apply today, since the flu stain has changed every year, have the effects become more severe or the same? How that affects this theory, going back year by year, back to when I was being born, how would you figure it out? Seems like every years flu stain could have a different affect to expectant Mothers? What about in 3rd world countries, that have little or no care for expectant mothers?

Another thing to keep in mind is that correlation is not necessarily causation.

I had toxemia with my son.
My mom did, too, with my eldest brother..her first child.
It runs in family lines..it's an immune issue, I believe.
I have often wondered how that played in my son's developing autism.
I know that immune issues are way on the rise, as is autism
I wonder what in the envirement might cause it.
I see parents reaching at straws, like I once did. ("It's because of this! It's because of that!)
Time and life have humbled me where all that's concerned.
Now I just live with the question, and wait, and hope to see an answer in my lifetime.

I have learned to not, so willinglingly, jump on the latest band wagon.

What is this Wonka, some kind of funhouse?
Why? Are you having fun?

I think that wondering how this principle applied 100+ years ago is a good question.

Back before they had the word 'bipolar' and before 'autism'...
