Sounds like you're advocating the banning (the manufacture) of all guns. That won't work.

The Beretta is used by the military. The Glock is used by the British military. Hell, the M1 Garand and the Mosin-Nagant were, at one time, used by militaries.

Should all of those be banned? Are you just talking about ones that look like the M16 or the AK-47? You want to ban things based on their looks?

Why would a semi-automatic firearm be for "military use only"? That seems like a waste for the military, seeing as how a full-auto (a TRUE assault rifle) would be much more beneficial.

no one said they want a ban on all guns At 1 ,it might appear that one is heading down a strict path here ,but he isn't .

and lets talk semi automatic style guns ,and full auto matic style guns in depth with just a single sentence..

Exactly the point Wing zero, they are banning based on what they look like, and associated with, where the choice of many many other guns would do the same if not worse. There are all kinds of very capable other rifles or handguns, that are not glocks or AR15's. Remember when Son of Sam was killing people? I think he just used a revolver, but it was a 44 magnum, and that was in the heyday of the Dirty Harry movies. Some the most infamous shootings were with bolt action hunting rifles, and the worst massacres have been done with sawed off shotguns.

California probably has the strictest buying policy. To be honest I thought it was a national policy. I do not think anyone really minds the wait other than like anything, you want to buy, you want to get in right now. That still does not solve any problems if the mental health confidentiality keeps conditions hidden, and it certainly has no safeguards from someone having mental illness problems far down the line from when he purchased a gun. In the recent cases, many have gotten the gun from others, but some have bought their guns via regular processes.

You can ban all the assault weapons you want to, but if the choice with the same person doing the same thing, is only a different gun to shoot, the ban does nothing. Millions of miles are driven in Corvettes, but the Corvette is still the #1 death vehicle, do you ban them? At the same time some of the most popular vehicles are also in the top 10 death vehicles. Yet millions and millions drive these top 10 death vehicles and never have a problem. Is it the cars or the drivers? Is it the guns or is it the ones behind them?

We haven't banned the Indy 500, The Daytona 500, Pro or high school football, or Baseball where fans have died falling out of the stands.

Unseal mental health records en masse like that and people will simply stop seeking help and/or lie about themselves in order to not be under scrutiny.

Mental health professionals are already required by law to report those who are a danger to others to police.

Lastly, mental illness in general doesn't make any more difference than anything else. IOW, mental illness is not a causal factor simply because nowhere near a majority of those who have mental illness go on killing sprees. Not even a significant minority.

Indy cars actually are not street legal, btw.

Neither is shooting guns in the city limits. We have rules and regulations, and 99.9999% follow them. People speed in their cars, and we could easily install governors in the computers, or GPS reporting when anyone exceeds the speed limit. Most cars have the star systems now. Imagine that, it would be easy. Kind of like the chip idea in everyone would solve all crimes immediately, but who wants to live like that? All you need to do is have a GPS and Time of the crime, and match any chip at the same place and time. People would rather accept all the crime evidently, and not be subjected to that kind of big brother living. We are capable of it now for sure.
