If you are from California you know who Huell Houser is. His documentary series about California's Gold has been part of California culture for over 20 years, where he would go to some our state known and little known spots and do features on them. Just a very kind and gentle person, he was very well liked by all of his viewers. Mr. Houser recently and abruptly, without explanation, retired and donated his entire works to Chapman University, and further donated his home to them. We now know Mr. Houser knew his days were numbered, and left the University caretaker of his life works. He will live on for decades with the reruns of his shows. Also a test of his works, is that television can be G-rated, entertaining, and educational, and his shows were all of that. Thanks Mr. Houser for bringing many enjoyable parts of our state to us on television.

Further details are that Mr. Houser was diagnosed with cancer 2 years ago, and began to donate his estate to the University. Being a very private man, he did not even reveal the nature of his cancer except to the closest of friends. He did not want attention to himself, nor did he want any memorials or funeral. He had no immediate next of kin.

I hope Mr. Houser knew how much he was loved by his fans, and that the outpouring of current public reaction, would have happened.
