Morrissey blames royal family for nurse's death

Singer criticises Duchess of Cambridge over the suspected suicide of Jacintha Saldanha, saying 'she feels no shame about the death of this woman'

Morrissey has blamed the royal family for the suspected suicide of Jacintha Saldanha. The singer accused the royals of "staggering arrogance" following the death of Saldanha, a nurse who was tricked by two Australian DJs into revealing details of the Duchess of Cambridge's pregnancy.

"It wasn't because of two DJs in Australia that this woman took her own life, it was the pressure around her," Morrissey told New Zealand's 3News. While much of this stress can be blamed on the press, he said, or the "maximum pressure [of] … the Palace and Clarence House," he called on the duchess to take direct responsibility.

"[She] was in the hospital, as far as I could see, for absolutely no reason," the singer said. "She feels no shame about the death of this woman, she's saying nothing about the death of this poor woman. The arrogance of the British royals is absolutely staggering."

Morrissey has even accused Kate Middleton of being in hospital for spurious reasons, despite doctors diagnosing her with the serious complaint known as hyperemesis gravidarum. "Does she have a health condition?" the singer asked. "Is it anorexia or is it pregnancy? … I mean morning sickness already? So much hoo haw and then suddenly as bright as a button as soon as this poor woman dies she's out of hospital? It doesn't ring true."

This is in stark contrast to the medical evidence, which views hyperemesis gravidarum as a serious medical condition with symptoms that include 24-hour periods of vomiting and dehydration. Hospitalisation is a common consequence for those who suffer from it.

Buckingham Palace must receive "thousands" of prank calls every day, the 53-year-old said. Blaming the incident on the DJs, Mel Greig and Michael Christian, "is just a way of distracting people". "The fact they got so far probably astonished them beyond belief. But the pressure put on the woman who connected the callers was probably so enormous that she took her own life … And we forget about that and of course the royals are exonerated as always."

Morrissey is a long-time critic of the monarchy. "They're absolutely horrible people," he said last year, on American TV. "I think they're arrogant, horrible dictators."

Greig and Christian have both apologised for their prank call, as has their employer, 2DayFM. According to the Associated Press, executives at the radio station could face criminal charges for airing the conversation without its participants' consent.

• This article was amended on 12 December 2012 to add a paragraph clarifying that the Duchess of Cambridge's condition is not simply "morning sickness" as it was described by Morrissey

I think the verdict is in, & it's clear to all that the actions of the Australian DJ's are not responsible for the suicide of the British Nurse.

Rather the actions of harassment & bullying she received from her co-workers & from the British & world press, after the world press took up the story & ran it over & over & over again. are to blame for her suicide. ( as outlined in her suicide note )

No she wouldn't .It's impossible to say really ,but my answer is still an uncertain no .....the truth is today is really not the correct perception of the question "would she still be alive if teh DJs had not called the hospital " She had issues with racism and being bullied by the employer .All this stored cynicism she had apoted obviously shows how she viewed certain beliefs inwardly and outwardly toward others in the end she would have done what she did .She was on a slope ,this is how she dealt with it all .She is to blame ,but i must say the hospital just quickened the idea in her head.

And the entire process was initiated by your DJ's. If even a shred of what you say is true, your DJ's set the final day or days into motion.

No, you cant make that assumption.

Like wise ....... would she still not be alive today if the U.S & British press did not run the story over & over & over again, humiliating her & Ridiculing her a the world stupidest person.

The DJ prank call was not the final straw, that saw her kill herself.

The humiliation & harassment she received from the British & U.S press ..... & the acts of harassment & victimization she received from her co-workers & employers, as well as from the Royal family is what caused her to kill herself.

(( As outlined in her suicide notes ))

Had the U.S & British press not victimized her, she may well still be alive today.

Maybe so .... but as we know. she never killed herself after the prank or because of the prank.

She killed herself because of the harassment she received from the world press who took up the tiny story of two Australian DJ's who made a prank call. To get a laugh from their Australian wide audience of around 100 thousand Australian people.

& the world Press ( U.S & British mostly ) took that tiny story & turned it into a global story of around 6 billion people.

The Australian DJ's made a prank call .... got a few laughs for their Australian audience & that was the end of the subject.

The American & British press turned the story into & whole new subject, by claiming the nurse was the stupidest person in the world to fall far such a bad prank, (( Good morning America claimed the nurse must have been stupid for falling for what is the worlds worst impression of the Queen ever )) & then they giggled.

The British Press along with the U.S press then made it about national security ....... Claiming g the nurse breached national security, & pushed for an inquiry into the breach.

We also now know the nurse was from India ...... ( so maybe she was concerned at an investigation on national security grounds & how that might affect her & her Indian family. ( & their right to stay in the U.K )

So you see ... the Prank call may have started it all. but it was by no means the last thing to push her over the edge.

That came from the U.S & British press who would not let the story die.

& also from her co-workers who harassed her both before the prank call & even more after.
