Maybe the "gods" are varieties and levels of self-awareness in a holographic AI, and aliens are its avatars.

It's James Moriarty the self-aware hologram, here next to a sketch of the Enterprise, apparently aware of his holographic nature.

"You – or someone – asked your computer to program a nefarious fictional character from nineteenth century London – and that is how I arrived... but I am no longer that creation. I am no longer that evil character, I have changed. I am alive – I am aware of my own consciousness."

- Moriarty, on his evolution

Maybe he needs to visit liberation unlimited to snuff out that I real quick. :P

Nah I'm just messing around.

I think they can teach someone to learn to not feel like you own your awareness and/or like you literally are your awareness because "you" are not a separate agent.

It reminds me of some teaching I came across years ago that perceiver, perceived, and perception are all one thing.

Small-minded people always interpret everything through old ways of thinking. If anything threatens their primitive thinking, it gets distorted and re-labeled to fit. If it still won't fit, it gets dismissed and ignored. If it can't fit or be ignored, it gets demonized and attacked.
