Looting seems to grow into a frenzy when big store are broken into, and everyone and his brother, who would never normally loot, just seem to all joint in. New Orleans was shameful, and I saw the same thing in the Los Angeles riots.

Gougers during the earthquake were despicable, and they said they would take action on them, however I do not think they ever did. Supply and demand I guess you have to call it, but how they can sleep at night is between them and God I guess. Where have our moral disappeared to in this age, and God help us if we really are in a state of anarchy.

During Katrina groups of Men from Arkansas loaded up their trucks with " what they called relief supplies " pulled their boats down claiming that they were there to help. Teams of 4 to a boat heavily armed......hit all the Jewelry stores in town......made off with untold merchandise......then hit all gun and ammo shops ETC.

This was where the reports of people in boats NOT STOPPING to help first came from...

I believe that it was something on this level that caused those cops to snap. Some Cops have a complex when it comes to authority....One Cop meets four Hillbillies with AR's......you gotta ask yourself...What ya gonna do?

I agree, & that's the real story, the damage, & the Numbers of people affected, ....... but no, instead of reporting the real story, America & Americans did what they always do.

Turn this into a, huge exaggeration & over the top story about how it's the biggest hurricane the world has ever seen.

& as it turns out, it was so small, it was not even graded as a hurricane. just a storm.

Yes, & that's what my point was all along. this is not a big storm at all, but it hit New York city. .... & the east coast of the USA.

It's the impact on the people that should have been the focus here, not how big the U.S press though the hurricane was going to be.

Once again the U.S media worries about their ratings & goes with catastrophe porn 24/7 ...... & the USA' again, drops the ball.

People were to busy watching the story on the news ..... that they were like addicts & could not even bring themselves to turn the Television off & take their family's somewhere safe.

Sad.

All true. & like i said ..... that's the real story, not the U.S beat up ( this is the biggest storm ever ) but it's not. American hype.

The real tragedy here, is the number of people this tiny storm ( not even a category 1 hurricane ) effects. Like you said greeney2, 75-100 million people have been effected by this storm .... Now just imagine what might happen if a category 4 or 5 hits the east coast of America next time ....


& thats why i re-posted my post on Cyclone Yasi.

yasi was a category 5, it struck Australia's east coast & wiped out half the state, when it made land fall, it broke up & became a tropical storm, It rained & rained &rained, until Queensland had, 12 meters of water ... whats that ( 70 odd feat ) of water houses wore covered .... all that water traveled down into Australia's southern states of Victoria, ACT, New south wales & 8 weeks later everything was still flooded.

& at the same time, you might recall my post ) The West coast of Australia was fighting bush fires, that were larger then half the USA .......

All at once the Entire Australian mainland ( the same size as the USA ) was destroyed .......& 1/3erd of Australian's were caught up in catastrophe in one for or another. Cyclone, Flood, Fire ...... But as you rightly point out, greeny2 even tho this Affected 1/3erd of Australian's ........ as you pointed out, Australia's population is only 22 million in total.

So even tho the Cyclone, Floods & fire destroyed an area the size of the USA ...... all that only affected like 8 million people.

Which brings me back to my original point.

The size of the storm is neither here, nor there ....... & had nothing to do with anything. Each storm is different in so many ways .... that you can never compare one storm ..... Hurricane .... Cyclone .... typhoon to another as each is very different.

If sandy had hit the Australian coast. i doubt we would be talking about it as Australia has such a small population compared to the USA .... & even New York city. That it's unlikely that the damage Sandy caused to the USA would have been seen had the storm hit Australia.

& the Same goes for Cyclone Yasi which hit Australia ........ Had Yasi hit the USA instead of Australia.

You are the one doing comparisons and acting like an idiot. NObody in this country ever called this the biggest hurricane ever, it was called what it was, a converging of several conditions to make the "perfect storm" and it was, devastating the north east. A condition where a catagory 1 with other conditions at the same time was more damaging than imagined. Maybe you should just shut up about the USA, and do us all a favor. Its getting old!

Rath, are you attempting to make valid points or just strike nerves with people? Why don't u change gears and opt for constructive discussion? Fine, so u think the US blew this storm out of proportion. That it was made a much bigger deal than it should have been. Fine. There is a simple solution, stop watching American television. And if its being broadcast on Australian TV, then your as much to blame for the "hype".

It was no Hype and it exposed just how stupid some of our fellow citizens really are. It's sad to have to point that out but facts are facts..

When you have warning days in advance, tech at your fingertips to track and monitor, only to end up trapped or dead.....well. Yes there are exceptions, always are......but those always have ample time to be corrected....it's just that people ( not all ) but some are either to dumb, or simply do not care to do the right thing.

There was precedent a good one-------the storm of 93.. I remember that one like it was yesterday...The pressure on this one was lower when it came ashore. Despite being 500 miles to the west, the wind blew here for 4-5 days with gusts on Tuesday-Wednesday of near 40 mph. No rocket science necessary.

Do they embellish " sure they do " It's what stupid assed producers think will make them more ad revs.....so it's cleavage, short skirts, blonds----and " EXCITEMENT OUT THE ARSE "
