Worldwide bacon shortage ‘unavoidable’

Is it pork-ageddon? Britain's National Pig Association has sounded the alarm that the world should brace for an "unavoidable" bacon and pork shortage next year.

The cause of the trouble is high pig-feed costs caused by what it describes in a press release as "the global failure of maize and soya harvests."

The organization notes that new data shows that pig herds are declining at a significant rate, not just in Britain, but around the world.

The way out of this coming catastrophe is to subsidize pig farmers to stem the loss of their herds, says the industry group. The organization has also launched a "Save Our Bacon" campaign, which encourages consumers to buy British pork products.

BACON lovers can rest assured an international pork shortage is unlikely to affect Australia.

Warnings emerged earlier this month that drought in the United States and grain shortages across Europe meant many pig farmers have cut their herds, which could hit supplies of bacon and pork in 2013.

But Australian Pork Limited (APL) says Australia won't see any such shortage.

All fresh pork meat is from Australian animals.

Australia saw record imports in July as European farmers downsized their herds, an APL spokeswoman told AAP.

"If you look at the report (of shortages) itself, it eventuates from England," the spokeswoman said.

"We virtually import no product from England."

Listen to the news, its true, bacon is heading for severe shortages. Its no wonder, everyobdy and his brother has some kind of bacon burger or bacon chicken sandwinch in all these fast food places worldwide.

Yes there will be bacon shortage's in several 3erd world country's who are to poor to be able to pay for or provide food to their citizens.

But outside the euro-zone & the USA ...... there is no such bacon shortage.

As the article i posted sez.

Australia will see no such shortage as we produces much of our food & do not need to rely on imports from other nations.

the original reports also come from the failing economy of Great Britain ..... & As the Article i posted points out Australia imports next to zero pork products from Great Britain.

& im sure the likes of New Zealand who also produce most of their own food supplies would be in the same camp as Australia.

So in short ......

It's not much of a world shortage, when most the world still has ample bacon & pork products to provide for themselves.

Maybe the topic should be titled .... (( third world bacon shortage ‘unavoidable’ ))

because it's clearly not a WORLD WIDE bacon shortage, is it now.

Well maybe since Austrailia has so much you will give pork to these 3rd world countries.

But the fact is ...... it's not Australia's problem, you all over populated & over polluted your own country's.
