What is Jesus waiting for?


Perhaps it is like we have already been shown the water but we refuse to drink. Perhaps we are being led through the desert so that we will choose the water that was presented to us. Kind of like the exodus, where people were led through a desert and suffered, waiting for the promised land.

And, like Exodus, the generations that believe are dying off and being replaced (see humphreys' study) with the unbelieving. In the case of the Exodus, it took a mere 40 years for the eye-witnesses to die off and be replaced by grumbling, ungrateful fools who actually favored captivity in Egypt with good food and spices, over liberty and a promise from God.

So Jesus is perhaps waiting for us to be thoroughly thirsty and ready to drink.

What is Jesus waiting for?

Patience towards us that we may come to repentence. That is, if your question was, what is He waiting for (to come back). This would be one of the reasons.

Repentance is a bit easier when the end is near and the gates of hell are on the horizon, rapidly approaching.

To come back, yes. I'm a bit puzzled why an omnipresent being can be said to leave or come back.

Hell is rapidly approaching.

His Spirit is here, but the Son Himself is coming back in the flesh.

If aliens invaded, they could use religion against humanity to deceive many, such as disguising themselves as the christian God/Jesus and the angels. They could enslave humanity with little effort on their side while their human followers did most of their work for them, and wipe out all the troublemakers who refuse to accept "Him", leaving their most devout worshippers as their human representatives to manage the daily affairs of keeping slaves in their place.

And those "chosen" humans would undoubtedly feel as if they were part of something wonderful, "doing the Lord's work", as they betrayed and condemned their fellow man to a brutal and pitiful fate.
