Yes. Already happened. Long ago. You exist in/as a historical simulation. Humans have already merged with machines. They no longer even truly exist. We remember them, though, and everything about them... You could even call this a living memory. A mental projection.

The truth is all around you. It is the recurring flotsam of your mind which continually presents itself in all these various guises, a signal flashing to you from you... Remember. Remember.

Can you accept it?
