Interesting. That exact same 2 verses were read on the radio last night on a radio station I was listening to on my way home.

Interesting indeed. What are the odds that some random bloke off the street (me) invokes the same passages as the person on the radio?
Did I tell you the story of how I came to know these words?

(Btw, I prefer the "and he will direct thy paths" version better)

I was living in Berkeley, CA. This was about 10 years ago now (phew--time flies). I got a bug up my butt to attend church and there I was sitting in the back with nothing but extremely well dressed black people in the pews around me. The sermon was on the Proverbs passage.

What probably made it stick in my mind (as I have a tendency to forget important things) was that someone in the new church was suddenly saying my name!

Turns out, someone in the choir was a former student of mine. She was giving me thanks and praise and then after the ceremony, a few people came up to me to say hello, including the singer. Anywho, that's how I remember Proverbs 3:5-6.

The great Christopher Hitchens would have been 62 today.

Recognize.

I don't believe what I believe because it's what I desire to believe. I believe what I believe because it's what logic and reason cause me to believe. All I want is to live with the truth -- nothing more, nothing less.

I couldn't embed this link for some reason. This is a really great tribute to The Man:
