A necropsy found the marine mammal died from highly unusual injuries.

"The entire body showed evidence of massive blunt trauma, some sort of pressure wave that was very blunt in nature not the pointed bow of a ship or anything," said Ken Balcomb, senior scientist at the Center for Whale Research at Friday Harbour, Wash., about 15 kilometres east of Victoria.

Balcomb suspects the animal was killed by an explosive device, one of 96 the U.S. Navy deployed in the area in 2011.

Oooooook lol, now this is sad, but interesting to see in the news. Animal awareness is important, but then again I guess someone didn't do there job.

Another waste of life...an innocent whale no less.

it's not quite that simple ... why is the navy exploding bombs in this area anyway? the news reports it but leaves it to tail off into nothing leaving the important question unanswered and unnoticed by most people ... people will take away two things for the most part: who cares about a killer whale or we should try harder to preserve natural species ... but what we should ask is why are they exploding bombs there? underwater i assume ... and what effect is it having on other wildlife in the area, namely, wildlife we might be consuming as food ...
