Davy Jones, musician and actor known best as the lead singer of The Monkees, died this morning of a heart attack. Jones passed away in Martin Memorial Hospital in Martin County, Florida, at the age of 66. He is survived by his wife Jessica and four daughters.

Jones’ career in music and acting lasted throughout his life. His final musical performances were just under two weeks ago—Jones performed at BB King in New York City on February 18, and in Oklahoma on the following night.

Jones and fellow Monkees Micky Dolenz and Peter Tork continued to collaborate after the cancelation of their featured sitcom, The Monkees, for which the band was created. Jones will always be remembered foremost as the band’s beloved front man.

Speaking on behalf of his friend and former band member, Monkee guitarist Peter Tork stated, "It is with great sadness that I reflect on the sudden passing of my long-time friend and fellow-adventurer, David Jones.

His talent will be much missed; his gifts will be with us always. My deepest sympathy to Jessica and the rest of his family." ... 6/18838922

He was one of my first 'loves' (him and Cliff Richards)

a true..kinda f'd up.. story..
my mom was NOT the most attentive parent (understatement)
I have a vivid memory tied to the Monkees....
I was four or five years mom and my aunt had taken me and my cousin (also four or five) to a local shopping mallish kind of place (this was back in the UK)
her and my aunt were jibber-jabbering away..when I noticed in a shop next to the shop my mom and aunt were going into.. there was a Monkees coloring book in the window..I wanted it..I went up to my mom and asked her if I could have it..she ignored me and kept on yapping with aunt..I wanted it!! went into her purse(it was haning on my baby siste'rs stroller , which she was pushing aorund)..I took her wallet..and I and my cousin marched next door to the shop where the book was being sold..I grabbed two of them (one for me, one for her) and handed the cashier my mom's wallet..told her to take out what it cost..she did (and maybe more, for all I know)..she gave me back the and cousin went back to our moms in the other shop and I put her wallet back in her purse...her and my aunt never noticed we were even gone(we were like four or five years old!!) they finally realized we had the coloring books and asked how we got them (thought we stole them)..I explained what I had mom was in shock..she yelled at me, but not too much, as I think she realized just HOW negletectful she had been to hav emissed all that

I laugh back on it now..thinking my tiny child butt was quite the brave rebel..or somehting like that

RIP Davey

What is this Wonka, some kind of funhouse?
Why? Are you having fun?
