Well, this might be enough to get a vote out of me.
Newt Gingrich is promising a permanent moon colony by 2020 and to declare that colony a U.S. state...

Just realize any kind of promise like that with a date so close, if real at all, has had to have been in place for a least 10 yrs., if not more.

If 2020 is really feasible, then Newt is aware of whatever has already been in place to make it happen by that date. And if so, it also means that no matter who is pres., it will happen.

I also like his recent view on the sanctity of marriage. Particularly, same sex marriage is bad and is the fault of Paganism. Infidelity is cool though, totally in line with Christian beliefs. Wait another week or two and he'll promise you a plot on Mars.

The moon program is definatly doable within that time frame. My company has been part of the program since before I retired, including reviving and upgrading Apollo engines, plus other concepts with other proven engines that will take us back again.

If Obama doesn't get reelected I have decided I want Newt in..just for the entertainment value, alone.
If we are going to hell in a hand basket..might as well be entertained on the way there.

The promise is a direct shot at Obama, who has unfortunately downsized every facet of nasa.

You mean reality television style? We can keep score of how many wives he goes through during his presidency. Maybe an appearance on Jerry Springer to let the ex's slug it out with him in the middle?! Anti-Paganism legislation, book burning/banning. Fun!

That is very true except the J2 X program, and heavy lift programs, and Orion program are still ongoing in my company, the programs have shifted from a moon to a Mars mission. IMHO a new President could revive the Moon and it is doable. We would not be starting from scratch.
