Here we go... 8-)

How do you define .(9)?

Also, if 1 is truly greater than .(9), then by what margin is it greater?

It is greater by an amount that gets smaller and smaller as time passes but will never equal zero.

Back in the day, when all they had was fractions, I'm sure they loved how everything meshed perfectly. These decimal thingys really threw a stick in the spokes, didn't they.

Is there any time that's passing when I write .(3)?

oh please, you talk about boundaries and stuff like, "where this ends and that starts" around here all the time
I think you even mentioned the idea of "fuzzy boundaries" recently somewhere around here..talking with DD, I think

Here's a documentary about Fermat's Last Theorem which resisted solution for 350 years.

This is a documentary about John Nash. (I haven't seen it yet; it was recommended to me.)

I saw "A Beautiful Mind" way back when, and found his formula of "self vs.group" to be spot on.

.(3) implies endless time, i.e. forever.

by writing .(3) the author is admitting both laziness and lack of time to FULLY describe the number. it takes an arrogant sob to write .(3) and expect the REST of us to figure it all out in our minds.
