I think the US is just more PC ("politically correct")now days, or wanting to seem that way..culturally... than maybe Australia...generally. This all has more to do with that.

but still..on this...

also..that Austalian skit..it was racist..but it was also pretty funny...but it WAS really, very racist

And you are right..the US has done plenty of racist joking past and presently

an example from my own life...

just last year my family went to UniversaL Studios, Hollywood.

We were in line for The Simpsons ride (a fun ride, FYI).

so anyway, we are in line, right behind an Asian couple, obviously vacationing in the US.

The line gets long so they show Simpsons videos on tv screens throughout the line to entertain the crowd as they wait.

Suddenly, a Simpsons video comes on with Homer acting Asian and putting on a bad Japanese accent, as a joke.

It was SO uncomfortable.

I couldn't help but think this couple was here visting the States and now they have ths embarrasing memory to remember their trip with...grreat.

A-lot of Asians vist Universal Sutdios, Hollywood because california is on the Pacicif side of the States.
I can't believe Universal was running this video there.
If I was more of an activist type i probably would have complained to the management or something.

Racism i would expect is a slurr,violence in said words and actions,the real issue and core of crossing the lines..Joking behaviour is no where near it..The lines are blurry enough to not notice a clear difference ..

America has always become confused differentiating between issues..
For one action and violence...I recall Kojak the tv series which was an action was classified at one stage as being one of the most violent shows around..People calling for a ban...Christ...
You need to work on your differentiation clue/issues..
