UFO reports from Iowa surged in June 2012 to 20 cases, up from just three cases the previous month, according to statistics released July 1, 2012, by the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON).

MUFON State Director Greg Andersen acknowledged the additional cases and says he has every field investigator busy working the cases now.

"There does not seem to be a common thread among the cases, but most were in eastern Iowa," Andersen said today. "One thing that may account for the increased number of reports was an article in the Des Moines Register on the Mitchellville case. It was right after this that we got the reports."

Most recently, an Iowa family near Fontana Park in Buchanan County reported watching a silent, egg-shaped object that was hovering about 10 feet over nearby power lines on June 26, 2012, before drifting slowly away.

The story was covered as: Iowa family reports egg UFO hovering over nearby power lines

In February 2012, an Iowa witness crossing a street reported watching "a silent, black oval-egg-shaped object with lights at the front and back and with many lighted windows." This case was covered as: Frightened witness looks away: Oval-egg object gets close.

The public portion of witness testimony for all 20 June 2012 cases can be reviewed at mufon.com within their Content Management System by searching for only Iowa cases from June 1 through June 30, 2012. Andersen will report back once his investigators have completed the cases.

Other Iowa cases that have been reported on here include the following:

Iowa City: Witness describes 'large, hovering' UFO with neon lights

Three UFOs over Iowa City: 'Aircraft was silent and had no lights'

Triangle UFO over Iowa '20 feet above the treetops'

'Solid black triangle' moves silently over Iowa home

'Panicked' Iowa witness runs from moving UFO

Triangle UFO under 300 feet over Iowa interstate

Please keep in mind that most UFO reports can be explained as something natural or manmade. If Iowa MUFON State Director Greg Andersen investigates and reports back on these cases, I will release an update. Please report UFO activity to MUFON.com.
