Record snow storm triggers delays
Snow flurries throughout the night and early morning caused numerous delays for travellers using Switzerland's rail system on Thursday.
A heavy, wet snow snapped trees, which fell across tracks. The most affected regions included Zurich, Schaffhausen in the north and the areas around the Gotthard pass in central Switzerland.
Passengers moving between Spiez and Interlaken south of Bern were forced to take buses when rail service there was interrupted around 7am. Broken branches and trees blocked roads.
Farmers in the Bernese Oberland also awoke to snow-related problems. Damaged fences allowed their cows to wander freely.
According to MeteoNews, the Swiss lowlands received the most snow for any October since records began. Zurich received 20cm, beating a record of 14cm set in 1939.
Trains were largely running on time again by 9am" |

What do you call a person that believes global warming entails only a rise in temperature?
Ignorant. |

| Jack, I hate to say it but, global warming doesn't mean no more snow. It also means the upper atmosphere winds and currents are changing, patterns of jet streams, etc., so having snow in areas like this at odd times is part of the effects, and further proof global climate is changing. You need to read about how only an average temperature of 2 degrees has profound effects on the earth. That is part of the way the California Serria Nevadas, Yosemine and Sequoia National parks were formed. Average termperature changes over centuries, resulting in hotter and colder periods lasting 20-50 years. Neuclear winters are caused by only a few degrees more colder. |

Global warming as it is being sold is nothing more than "The Boy Who Cried Warming". It is a bunch of made up tripe that then is only supported by the previous made up tripe.
The weather has always changed, and will continue changing. We are a disease free flea on an elephant.
What really need to be stopped are eMENTALISTS they are deranged and their web of baked solutions are plain stupid. Look at what their bio-fuel mantra has wrought. death and destruction to many native forests. Borneo is about to be just O cause of the palm oil plantations all for the sake of bio fuel.
Nuclear is the solution and we better get started before oil is back up to around $200+ a barrel which it will be in a little while, maybe 2-3 years max. |

You shouldn’t have asked him that. He’ll come up with all sort of crap now. |

Warming or Cooling is not really the point. Subtract out the politics, and your left with a change which has increased over what appears as less time.
What is interesting to note is the connection to the Maunder Miniumum and lack of sunspot activity. Why?
Because we are currently 11 months into Solar Cycle 24 and there has been no appreciable sunspots recorded!
| Quote: |
Early records of sunspots indicate that the Sun went through a period of inactivity in the late 17th century. Very few sunspots were seen on the Sun from about 1645 to 1715. Although the observations were not as extensive as in later years, the Sun was in fact well observed during this time and this lack of sunspots is well documented. This period of solar inactivity also corresponds to a climatic period called the "Little Ice Age" when rivers that are normally ice-free froze and snow fields remained year-round at lower altitudes. There is evidence that the Sun has had similar periods of inactivity in the more distant past. The connection between solar activity and terrestrial climate is an area of on-going research.
|
Much of the research agrees that the lack of sunspot activity directly relates to a cooling temperature on earth, for many reasons.
Check out NASA's website on SOHO:
http://sohowww.nascom.nasa.gov/sunspots/
And the Marshal Centers sunspot activity web page
http://solarscience.msfc.nasa.gov/SunspotCycle.shtml
What I find most interesting is the graphical images of recorded sunspot activity for the last 200 years, very few have the tail that ours currently does where sunspots have dropped to zero for any appreciable period.
Who knows? Maybe Rober Felix is right? The ice age cometh. |
