I think I`m O but not sure...
I would never give blood because it probably contains toxics that people can die from.
My health the last 10 years have been halfdead Laughing

Haha. I have a friend who can't give blood because she was born in England during some mad cow disease outbreak or whatever....

Actually, O- can give blood to anyone. You can only give blood to AB+. You can get blood from both AB+ and AB-.

Me, I'm probably screwed if I needed a blood transfusion. I'm B- and apparently thats pretty rare. Oh well...

I learned something new the other day. I'm A- and have kidney troubles. Might need a transplant one day. My kidney specialist asked if I had potential donors in the family, and I know one niece is my blood type (but I really wouldn't want to ask her...) I learned that as far as transplants go, the RH factor doesn't matter, so I could use an O + or - and an A + or -.
Now I can steal one from my son. He says he happy cuz now he doesn't have to befriend someone who's A- and find a bathtub of ice etc...

I assume he was joking... Laughing

Thas a reason i give blod, try to stay healthy, and know my blood type. If anyone needs me ill try to be there. My Brothers girlfriend had to get a blood transfusion (I think it was a transfusion....) once cuz she got very sick and thas why she gives blood now.

Nope, you can't give to people with negative blood. We don't have the rh factor and it would kill us.

If a woman has a negative rh and gets pregnant by a man with positive rh, the womans body attacks the baby naturally. The postive blood is treated like something foreign. This, obviously, can cause all sorts of problems for the baby, like blindness, cerebral paulsey, missing limbs, etc. There is a shot for it to prevent this, but I still figure its risky.

If a man is negative and the woman is positive, that isn't a problem at all.

Micki, that sucks! Have you looked into any herbs or natural remedies that might help? I think dandylion root tea is good for kidneys, can't remember off hand.

No one has ever really explained to me what rh is.... it might help me to understand more, please.

*Dandelion helps with diabetes and liver diseases, good for help with curing anemia, and is also a mild laxative

Clary can be used as a kidney tonic
Agrimony teas and poultices may be beneficial
Bettony can be used but im not sure how......
Maybe garlic.... studies arent positive on that one
Horseradish (but also a diaretic)
Lovage (but that might only be kidney stones)
Onion helps with kidney problems
Parsley also
And Pipsissewa is highly rated for kidney problems

(But still look these up before taking)

Naw, my damage is done. They still aren't sure what caused it, but it happened when I was a teenager. I was on the "guinea pig ward" at the UW for the better part of 1973. They're leaning towards a lupus like autoimmune disease, but all their tests over the years have come back inconclusive. I'm kinda a freak, because they don't know why the damage stopped either. I've got about 30% function, the rest is permanent scar tissue. As long as I watch my diet and limit protein and sodium I seem to be stable. But as they don't know why the damage started and stopped, they can't swear it won't start again. No biggie. I just eat reasonably and will deal with future problems if they happen. I don't mess with any kind of supplements without talking to my marvelous (and somewhat hunky) kidney specialist. People used to tell me I should take echanacea (sp?) but apparently it's not for people with already compromised immune systems.
Life goes on. But no one wants my blood. Can't imagine why!
