Phoenix pub unveils evidence of ghosts

Listen: http://www.eastvalleytribune.com//slideshow/haunted/

An English pub in Phoenix claims it has something few other pubs in the Valley can offer: ghosts.

David Wimberley, owner of the George and Dragon Pub at 4240 N. Central Ave., said his restaurant has recorded several strange events that are paranormal in nature. Wimberley said these events include glasses being thrown, names being called out, women being grabbed by invisible hands and bottles of beer exploding in midair.

The occurrences have even captured the attention of a paranormal investigations company.

“Every place I have lived, in London and America, has been haunted,” Wimberley said.

Employees of the pub have backed up the claims of the owner, with several stories of their own.

Keith Jackson, general manager of the pub, said he has experienced many of the alleged events.

“Being poked in the back, having your hair pulled, it’s just really common,” Jackson said. “I refuse to be here by myself at night.”

Corine Gibson, a bartender for five years at the pub, said most of the alleged events happen in the late hours.

The events tend “to happen when it’s quiet,” Gibson said.

Wimberley said that Allison DuBois, a claimed medium who inspired the “Medium” television series, comes to the bar and has felt the alleged paranormal activity.

West Coast Paranormal, a team of investigators that specializes in investigating alleged paranormal events, went to the Phoenix pub on Friday to investigate the claims by Wimberley and his staff.

Wimberley said the crew set up screens and used infrared cameras to see if they could videotape any activities. They also used audio recording devices to pick up alleged paranormal voices.

Wimberley said that one of the crew members “was in the kitchen and someone grabbed his arm.”

The crew also picked up voices on the recordings that Wimberley and Jackson claim are ghosts speaking to the crew.

Wimberley said he believes the alleged spirits originate from an Indian burial ground across the street from the pub.

However, Jackson had another idea as to the origins of the alleged paranormal activities.

“I think it’s David (Wimberley),” Jackson said. “I think he’s haunted.”

That's crazy! He'll have people traveling all over the world now to see his pub. They still have tours of Lizzy Borden's home where her parents were killed. I think I would move in the back yard if I had to live in a home where beer bottles exploded in midair!

You wouldn't catch me there after dark! Maybe the owner should bring a gift of tobacco and bread like they used to. It was always polite to give the chief some kind of gift and tobacco was very popular.
