By VOA News
11 August 2008
Isaac Hayes, an award-winning U.S. singer and songwriter, has been found dead at his home in Memphis, in the southern U.S. state of Tennessee. He was 65 years old.
Family members found Hayes unconscious Sunday afternoon. The musician was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. Officials have not disclosed the cause of his death.
Hayes was well known for his soundtrack to the 1971 motion picture Shaft. The film's theme song topped the U.S. pop music charts for two weeks that year and earned Hayes a Grammy Award and an Academy Award.
Hayes began his professional music career in the 1960s in Memphis at the legendary Stax Records, where he played in the studio band and wrote music for other artists including Otis Redding and Sam and Dave.
In recent years, Hayes appeared in the animated television series South Park playing the voice of "Chef" a school cook who is also a devoted ladies man.

SR: Like the late Marvin Gaye, Isaac Hayes had a voice that was like blueberry syrup on a stack of fluffy pancakes...
I will also remember him as Truck Turner which he starred as a badass PI/Bounty Hunter who gives his gal pal a six pack on her birthday and also starred Nichelle Nichols (Lt. Uhura to all you Trekkie Nerds) as a foul mouthed Madame....
So long Isaac....it's an emptier world without you ! |
