This is the first time I see that on Google Earth. Dozens of craters... is this a bomb-test facility?

It's more like Area 51 is near nuke sites since the nuke sites were there first.
Lots of theme out there. Look for strange dead end roads with what look like tunnel entry ways and you'll find all kinds of weird stuff.
Toggle on your "Places of interest" box in Google Earth's layers and you'll find a bunch of things.

i think ive searched every grain of sand round area 51 on google earth, and i did find those craters as well as many other strange markings ages ago.
i also found a road with a convoy of vehicles on heading towards, what looked like a black hole like tunnel entrance, you could see the back end of a lorry going into it, i couldnt see front end as it was inside, with a convoy behind it.
on the next google earth update, my marker was still there but hey ho! the black hole/tunnel had gone, it had been faded out, but they kept the convoy there though, obviously the front vehicle had gone as it was half way in.
thats not the only marker ive had faded out, it seems like they must keep an eye on what we pin point with markers, then if they feel the need, blot it out on the next update, 'im suprised they let us view it in the first place?
i will go on to google earth some time over the weekend and post a few things i have found there on here |

I place markers and save them as links I can email or upload to webspace so people who have google earth can just click on the link to the marker and have it open in their google earth. Plus Print Screen.

| who knows? just that they where there one minute, then gone with the next update, but my marker pins where still there, just showing a convey, with, of course the front vehicle missing as you could only see the back end of it anyway before it was faded out |

No place you wanna be without a radiation suit. No biggie, though, milk of magnesia will help carry the alpha partilces out of your system. |

That's Yucca Mountain where they want to bury all the nuclear waste. |

This is the primary area that was used for above ground and below ground testing. The facility to the south by the dried lake bed is the control center for all the testing. At the top of the valley is a massive hole that was created during Operation Plowshare. The hole is perfectly round and is a cylinder with a rounded bottom.Inyour view it looks like a cone. That is the material that was originally in the hole is was super heated and the majority fell back into the hole.it is way below the lip of the hole and no wind can blow into it.It also will not hold moisture and is the constitency of talcum powder. If one were to fall in they would not stop until they reached bottom.
If you would notice there is a road that leads to it.It is on the tour you can take and you can stand at the edge of the hole.It had another use for many years too.It was the dump. |

Aaah, I see you found the nuke test sites. Butt loads of them all over the SW, and guess where all that fallout went (hint: cat mute)? "Nuclear Winter" always was hogwash or we would already be freezing our butts off. There was an overlay in GE that listed the details of most of the tests (size of the weapon, etc.) and most of them were 1 - 15 KT, which is pretty small by H-Bomb standards, but a few were in the multi-MT range, not too far from L.V.
I once found the site of "Tsar Bomba", the biggest detonation ever, 100 MT. Its on an island in the Barents Sea, Novaya Zemlya Island. 73°50'6.54"N 53°54'15.07"E
BTW you can save your links in GE using Ctrl+S to a KMZ file and others can load it in their GE. That's the easiest way. Ctrl+Alt+S saves a screen shot. I guess the GPS Coords are the next best thing.
You can find all kinds of neat things in GE! Go look at all those resorts out there in the Middle East! Try Palm Jebel and Palm Jumeira in Dubai, plus some of Saddam's palaces are still standing, lots of other BIG projects where oil is king. |
