Yes I would too Aquarian. I'm hoping it is one of the "for the better" inventions.
But either way I figure it'll bring in a sort of new way of doing things, significant change. Or thus is my hope anyway. |

Still with me? The weapon is Manual or Remote Control, NOT autonomous robotics.
The squad commander stated the guns were in Manual Fire Mode and not remotely controlled at the time of the incident.
An analyst from Jane's Defence Weekly noted the incident was probably due to simple mechanical failure.
All readers please note this is History already, it occurred in October of last year. |

My apologies. I don't know who you are, I'm asked dozens of questions daily and lots are more silly than what I must have percieved yours to be. Wasn't trying to be an ignoramus. 
Yes it is history indeed, when I found out I went and told everyone in the general area. "A robot killed 9 soldiers guys!  " But if it isn't autonamous I don't think that counts as a robot as you mentioned. |

Fair enough, SRO, as I don't know anything about you either. I served in the US military as an aircraft armament systems specialist and for some ungodly reason it all stuck. Maybe because I'm a gun nut? 
In addition to which my brother and I are armchair historians and have done quite a bit of research into armaments and their capabilities. 
Every automated war machine I'm aware of has Identification Friend or Foe built into its software and a string of integrated safeties that should prevent any accident like this one from happening.
The prospect of mechanical failure is not surprising, especially given that the squad leader made mention of frequent gun jams; the weapon was probably worn out.
The one thing that does scare me a bit is the robot makers are completely ignoring Asimov's Three Laws of Robotics, according to which you could never build an automaton designed to kill people.
Before you shell out the bucks for a Roomba or a Scooba, keep in mind the same company is building autonomous killing machines for the military. |

Huh, well I certainly can see how my answer would have been insulting to an armament system specialist.
Yeah, I thought the AI killing machine was a bad idea also. Apprently those so responsibly making military technology don't share the same opinion.
Ok, time for a random question: Would Terra be considered Sol Prime or Sol III? |

Not yet but there's lots about fraud, so look for that little catch-word, 'novelty', it's on all the stuff I (and Dennis Hope) (no connection or affiliation) sell.
There are currently no international treaties concerning extraterrestrial territories, much to ET's relief, I'm sure.
For thirty bucks (if memory serves) you get a 'novelty' deed, diagrams or photos (not all have been photographed), delivered to the address of your choice. Dirt cheap, for an entire moon...includes photo reprints of its parent planet, all heavy stock, not junk.
I've been meaning to talk to NASA for permission to use their logo on the deeds, they won't (read can't) endorse anybody's stuff but they will allow their logo on novelty items IF they're approve.
Umm...was that spam?

I don't think an automated canon with a tracking system constitutes a robot, per se. Sounds like your normal machine malfuction, malfinktion, mal, malfunction.
You know that some day real soon some guy is going to build that sexxy robot. You know that day is coming. Ooooh, did I say that? Got Fembot?
Seriously though, we are going to build real robots with intelligence and that intelligence is expected to surpass mankind's. What will these robots do then? I think it is possible to have something like The Terminator, as ridiculous as that movie(s) was/were, thank you James Cameron.
Lets just make sure it doesn't end up like the movie AI. Otherwise all the humans will be committing suicide. I didn't think it was possible to make a movie more depressing than Ordinary People, until Spielberg made AI. Yeesh! Nobody has gotten the Robot thing right, yet. I Robot was closer though, thank you Isaac Asimov. Bladerunner was cool 2.
