The very beginning of the Bible declares quite clearly that this is mythology and in no way to be taken literally. A woman sits down and begins to have a very intelligent conversation with a snake. This is after that woman is created from a spare rib taken from her sleeping husband. From there on you have another story of a talking donkey, a talking bush, a man whose walking stick turns into a snake. You have a man taking two of every kind of animal on to a boat. You have people walking on water, virgins giving birth, people resurrecting from graves. And what has our culture done with all of this? We have taken it literally and will attack anyone who dares challenge our interpretation.
I'm not a fan of organized anything, let alone religion. The old Christian God always seemed like a grumpy old man hellbent on grinding you into the ground on a wide-ranging palette of pernickety and somewhat arbitrary "sins" that must have once made sense when trying to organize a bunch of semi-nomadic tribal desert dwellers. Jesus and his hippy sandals was a good rescue job on a doomed brand.
Look around at the insanity that pervades the world and you will see what the scripture meant when it said, be not a minister of the letter, for the letter kills, but the spirit gives life. You will not find the word of God in a book. Books are written by people, not deities. Snakes don't talk, people do.

I agree with you, those stories in the bible are nothing but mythology passed down from other more ancient cultures. That is not to say the Bible is a bad read or worthless but about this I agree.

When you start to get into word meanings and symbolism and astrotheology some very interesting things begin to happen.

Like the sun being born after 3 days of no movement (in terms of degrees) on Dec. 25....

Actually, there is no place in the Bible where anyone has a conversation with a "snake".

The great thing about the Bible, it can say whatever you want it to.

The Bible is chock full of supernatural claims and events. If you don't believe in the supernatural, then you don't believe the Bible. No big revelation.

And to make the generic claim that supernatural events are simply impossible is to confuse supposition with fact. You cannot state it as fact... you are speaking only from your experience.

I've never been the eye witness to a meteor shower. Can I state as fact that they are impossible?

So you concede that ancient man could look at a meteorite that just landed with a huge hole surrounding it, trees/bushes flattened and not make up some imaginary reason for the event? Moses' burning bush could have been a natural gas deposit that lit up during a very hot, dry spell. (and the Oracle at Delphi kept all those "prophetesses" high with the same by-product.)
Better tell that to the millions still kissing the blarney stone, and the Ka'bal during hag.

You took a huge leap there. I never said what you claim I "admit."

I said to believe in the Bible is to believe in the supernatural. Conversely, to NOT believe in the supernatural means to not believe in the Bible.

I said it is errant to say supernatural events are impossible because the claim is based on supposition and personal experience.

How you went from that to me "admitting" that the people in the Bible didn't know a miracle from a gas deposit, I just don't know.

Going beyond ordinary understanding would be considered as "occult lore". Doesn't this define Christianity as a "cult"?

Going beyond ordinary understanding does not automatically equate to occult. The occult goes beyond ordinary understanding, but so does Christianity, Judaism, and all other religions.

Going with "ordinary" understanding is to be secular and mainstream.

....and books point and snakes bite. Would you disagree that there is any truth any where...somewhere? Even your 2 and half pound universe you have resting on your brain pan can tell the difference's between a lie and a virtue. Right? If so, who taught you, mom and dad? ...and when did you realize that even they could be wrong?...something you learned at school?...and when did you realize that the teacher could be wrong?...from experience?...and how in the hell did you ever get together to come to that conclusion, that you could learn from experience?...Life taught you? Well?
...and if that is so, how did Life ever become a concept in your thinking? Did you remember to open your eyes or did your listening improve? If so, then you are wise enough to explain to us what virtue is. It's O.K. to look it up in a book...better yet, google it. Then explain to me its value. By now you are defiantly wise enough for that. I'm sure.
