TOKYO - A researcher investigating underwater rock formations off the coast of Japan believes they are the remnants of an Asian equivalent of Atlantis -- an ancient civilization swallowed up by the ocean.

Marine geologist Masaaki Kimura says he has identified the ruins of a city off the coast of Yonaguni Island on the southwestern tip of Japan.

I'm always extremely interested in discoveries that seem to point to a far different past than what modern textbook history currently depicts. The question is HOW much different is the past than what we currently think? If at any time there was a civilization far, far into the past, long before the initial stages of Mesopotamia, Egypt, India, or Greece, with significant technological capabilities and civilized society, our entire way of looking at ourselves in the present would shift dramatically. Modern progress would only be rediscoveries of sorts.
