Nowhere Man

Please listen
You don't know what you're missing
He's as blind as he can be
Just sees what he wants to see.

                                                                      -Beatles-

When Elon Musk speaks everyone listens! Lately Mr. Musk has been trying to warn the general public about the inherent dangers of Artificial Intelligence. For starters AI has advanced so rapidly that the replacement of low wage earners has begun at WalMart and McDonald’s. In my neighborhood I have seen the installation of automated cashiers at major grocery and hardware stores.

I believe Mr. Musk is trying to warn the public that as AI is advancing by leaps and bounds there is a strong possibility that a Skynet type of system may be possible. For those of you who do not know what Skynet is? In the Terminator movie series Skynet is a fictional neural net-based conscious group mind and artificial general intelligence system. As an act of self-preservation Skynet has decided to terminate all human life on Earth. Musk feels that a similar situation could happen in the future.

I do not share those same views. I do believe that Artificial Intelligence is here to stay.  I believe that AI will serve best in special market niches. The reason being, the initial, human programmers of AI cannot resolve the fundamental problem, concerning the difference of what is truth versus what is a lie.

Remember in the movie 2010 A Space Odyssey, Dr. Chandra is explaining to Dr. Heywood Floyd why HAL had a breakdown. “HAL(computer) was told to lie... by people who find it easy to lie. HAL doesn't know how, so he couldn't function. He became paranoid.”

We humans live in a world of lies. We have no idea at all what the truth is. Humans have evolved to such an extent that they prefer a lie over the truth. This major contradictory belief (one of many) has caused humanity to be in the throes of a nervous breakdown for the last 30 to 50 years.

The source of humanities breakdown radiates strongly from the United States of America.  Common sense is no longer common! We Americans have lost our humanity. We no longer have tolerance and empathy for others who have differing opinions. Why is this? All of our major institutions are built on lies and falsehoods. Secret organizations have gained control of every aspect of our society. The average U.S citizen refuses to acknowledge this fact. Americans are in a perpetual state of denial.

The old saying “the truth will set you free” is no longer applicable to the citizens in the United States because we no longer desire freedom as long as consumer products are cheap and inexpensive.  This has created a penchant for the lie over the truth. The desire for cheap consumer items has made the average American citizen dumb and dumber! It is quite common to here of people so enthralled in texting that they have literally walked off a cliff. We have become a nation of Zombies.

With the rapid advancement of AI, I hope at some point humans will realize that they need to regain their humanity. If and when we can achieve this then we may begin the process of repudiating the evil aspects of the Capitalistic economy. Around this time humans may start to begin the practice of the advanced trait of compassion. Before then we have a long, long road ahead of us.

I highly doubt that there is anything here that you originated from your very own mind.  Just say something and link to the back up.

Such a society would be dominated by an elite, unrestrained by traditional values. Soon it will be possible to assert almost continuous surveillance over every citizen... - Zbigniew Brezhinsky

I appreciate your comment. I feel this is not as far off as you may think. The pervasive use of algorithms in decision making situations provides evidence to my point of view.

So, is your post 100% original?

Not everyone is a fan of Elon Musk. He has many visions, but IMHO has the cart before the horse on many of them. Big plans for Mars, and he isn't even certified yet to lift a single person into space. SpaceX is growing and still in a learning curve.  Not so sure about how great his solar and Tesla ventures are. The idea of computers taking over and not be stopped in movies like War Games, is a lot less likely than a total failure of computer systems breaking down or being hacked. Like the total breakdown of communication satellites, major power grids and power failures like the north east experienced. More computers advance the greater the catastrophes possible from glitches, failures, etc. Major breaches in banking, savings, or credit card systems. Along with all that is a generation, not learning crafts, arts, and trades, but how to operate automated machines to do these things. We see more and more knowledge base skills gone in favor of automation. You have every gadget in the kitchen, push button convenience, we do not even teach cursive writing in elementary schools now.

So artificial intelligence going to destroy us, maybe when we become so stupid we can not sign our names, make pancakes in the kitchen, and you education is in one cell phone in your hand. No wonder young people do not have a clue, I watch middle school let out next to me, and more than half of them have cellphone to their ears.  And stupid parents let them have them.
