Richard Dawkins, in his book The God Delusion, has described Pantheism as “sexed-up atheism.” That may seem flippant, but it is accurate. Of all religious or spiritual traditions, Pantheism - the approach of Einstein, Hawking and many other scientists - is the only one that passes the muster of the world's most militant atheist.

I wonder if you think this is an accurate assessment, at1?

It is from a pantheist site, so I'd imagine it is something close to accurate to what pantheists believe.

If so, I would have to consider myself a pantheist atheist, if it makes sense to be labelled such a thing.

If you are looking for atheist groups or freethought groups or brights groups and email lists, and if you would like ones that do a lot more than just attack religion, then you may well find World Pantheism the place you were looking for.

Maybe I don't understand. I've spent the last few months argueing that you attack religions and you have all denied it. I;ve spent the last few months talking about Militant Atheism and you all deny it, but here you talk about fitting into this Pantheism definition that admits to being the most militant. The above statement admits the Atheist groups do attack religions, and you even call yourselves militant. Kathy Griffen, discribes herself as a militant atheist, like it is a badge of honor. When I have said Militant Atheist, or Atheism, you deny it and get indignant/offended about it. Now you post something that quotes the very nature of what you believe in, is considered the most militant.

is the only one that passes the muster of the world's most militant atheist.

All I can say greeney is you need to tune up your reading comprehension, or stop being so obsessed with those meanie militants that you miss what is really being written.

Pantheism most certainly does not admit to being militant. Pantheism is the belief that the Universe is God. Maybe some pantheists want to align themselves with militant atheists, or consider themselves militant? That's their choice, but that has no bearing on pantheism itself.

I'll say again. Pantheism has nothing whatsoever to do with militant atheism. The article was merely saying that even the most militant atheist (Dawkins) does not have a problem with the pantheist belief system, so it cannot be so different to plain ole atheism.

I can't help that you're reading into things which are not there.

Look, atheism is not a religion. It is just not like Christianity. Some atheists and some atheist groups attack religion, of course, others want it wiped out entirely, I'll bet a few would be willing to do so by force, but that is certainly not even close to being a prerequisite for being an atheist, or indeed a pantheist!

How can you not tell the different between a site directing you to atheist groups that attack religion, and atheism itself as inherently being militant?

Also, I have not denied attacking religions, in fact, I attack religion on here constantly, but you called me a militant atheist, which as we've seen means the active desire to wipe out all religion. It's just not the same thing at all.
