When ever you hear the term Orthodox generally it is the most radical of any religions sects. Bi it Orthodox Jews, Orthodox Christian, or Orthodox Muslims, it seems the most controversial acts or statements are always from Orthodox factions, and never from moderate, reformed or more liberal churchs of given religions.

Who in their right mind could agree with this, not only from a animal crulty standpoint, but the idea of a court porceeding concluding a Dog was a reincarnated Lawyer. That is mental institution logic. But is it any more controversal from a Radical Muslim issuing a Holy War who is a Orthodox fundementalist? Strapping on a bomb to kill as many Jews or infidels as possible? Or is it any nuttier than the Florida Christian Fundmentalist who wanted to burn the Koran? The KKK burning out Black churches and hangings? The Westborro Baptists Fundementalists protesting at the Army Funeral about Gays? Jerry Farwells Ranting? How can their be such radical sects of normally peaceful and rational religions?

Jewish court sentences dog to death by stoning

JERUSALEM (AFP) – A Jerusalem rabbinical court condemned to death by stoning a dog it suspects is the reincarnation of a secular lawyer who insulted the court's judges 20 years ago, Ynet website reported Friday.

According to Ynet, the large dog made its way into the Monetary Affairs Court in the ultra-Orthodox Jewish neighbourhood of Mea Shearim in Jerusalem, frightening judges and plaintiffs.

Despite attempts to drive the dog out of the court, the hound refused to leave the premises.

One of the sitting judges then recalled a curse the court had passed down upon a secular lawyer who had insulted the judges two decades previously.

Their preferred divine retribution was for the lawyer's spirit to move into the body of a dog, an animal considered impure by traditional Judaism.

Clearly still offended, one of the judges sentenced the animal to death by stoning by local children.

The canine target, however, managed to escape.

"Let the Animals Live", an animal-welfare organisation filed a complaint with the police against the head of the court, Rabbi Avraham Dov Levin, who denied that the judges had called for the dog's stoning, Ynet reported.

One of the court's managers, however, confirmed the report of the lapidation sentence to Israeli daily Yediot Aharonot.

"It was ordered... as an appropriate way to 'get back at' the spirit which entered the poor dog," the paper reported the manager as saying, according to Ynet.

Certain schools of thought within Judaism believe in the transmigration of souls, or reincarnation.

Here is the definition of orthodox according to freedictionary.com

1. Adhering to the accepted or traditional and established faith, especially in religion.
2. Adhering to the Christian faith as expressed in the early Christian ecumenical creeds.

From the Christian perspective, I would hardly call this the "worst" in Christianity.

Please explain why every worst case senerios, comes from the most orthodox end of a religion?

Like this dog story, or the Westborrow church, or the radical suicide bomber Muslim? The most controverial voices/messages come from the most orthodox ends of religions.
They never come from the reformed or moderate ends of the religions.

The Muslims are just following their religion. The Jews and their reincarnated dog are just nuts and the Westboro Baptists are a cult and nothing more. A Christian cult does not represent Christians even though the world may think so.

Reincarnation? 😉

I think you are partly right Q, except I think they are all nuts. The radical Muslims are nuts the way they hate Jews and infidels. The Rabbi court was nuts for thinking such a thing, about the dog. ( I have also herd of a few other orthodox Rabbi views on other things that are pretty far out). And the Westborrow church may be a cult, but they are still a Baptist fundmental church, as are a few other fundelmentalist Christian churches involve in anti Gay activism, violence against abortion clinics, Jerry Farwell kind of things, etc.
