Yes.

And no.

Christmas is pagan in origin. Call it the Saturnalia, ot the Feast of Mithra, or the Midwinter Solstice...that's irrelevant, really. Point is it started out PAGAN.

And I don't care.

OrangeTom and others can give you the whole history of what Christmas WAS.

I only concern myself with what it IS.

Let that great Welsh Bard DYLAN THOMAS tell you what it IS from my skydrive:

I agree..yes and no..and also, let's not forget it's commercial, capitalistic uses..and the simple, traditonal, cultural sharing stuff with the next generation, passing stuff on to your kids..type of leanings it has

Christmas, it's not just about religion anymore

Christ likes Christmas and still thinks of it as his day - A day that people are thinking about him is always favourable. Anyone who says that it is not - (orangetom) kiss my booty! CHRIST SAYS YOU WRONG SON! BUT YOU AINT BE GETTIN IT!

I never knew the sheep went out in the winter. After all, they need grass and weeds to feed on. Obviously Ishuah was an Aries (possibly Taurus), definitely not a Capricorn. 😉

Or, did you guys actually read what was said in your bible?

Such a society would be dominated by an elite, unrestrained by traditional values. Soon it will be possible to assert almost continuous surveillance over every citizen... - Zbigniew Brezhinsky

Christmas, in and of itself, NEVER started out Pagan.

That time of year was traditionally reserved for Pagan celebrations (Winter Solstice, etc.) but the Christmas celebration itself, was not Pagan. Ever.

The celebration of the birth of Christ was moved to the end of December to rival the Pagan celebrations going on at the same time, so that the Christian Church would have something to celebrate rather than be tempted to join in the Pagan celebrations. The Church decided that Christians, rather than joining in Pagan celebrations (or just sitting at home), should set themselves apart from The World, and celebrate the birth of Christ Jesus. And amen to that!

No one ever believed Christ's virgin birth occurred at the end of December. That's just derogatory anti-Christian rhetoric aimed to make Christians seem ignorant.

The whole point of the Christmas celebration is simply to observe and be grateful to God for His taking on human form to offer us the gift of Grace and redemption. The time of year it is celebrated is completely immaterial, and therefore it was strategically marked on the calendar during a yearly Pagan Solstice celebration. A win-win, you might say.

Chjristian holidays were deliberatley placed around the same time as Pagan holidays..for obvious reasons

It's more political than anything

But who cares?

not me

all that matters is what's in one's heart
we SO overcomplicate things

It must frustrate Jesus, to be honest

people fighting over him and his message..the direct opposite of his message, fyi

true dat, dawg.

though technically, part of His message was that people would do this very thing... fight over Him.
