"The countdown to destruction has begun... again. Yes, it's that time folks, just like 2004, 2001, 2000, and 1997, the world will end on December 21, 2012. Oh yes, it's time to be afraid, again.

This time is different. It's not at all like those other doomsday predictions, this one is based on the ancient Mayan calendar, so it must be right. THE TIME IS NOW to buy books written to teach you about the apocalypse, how to survive it, and of course, how to repent your sins just in time to go to heaven.

Did I mention buying things?

Sure, the movie looks good, but so did End Of Days back in 1999.

To all people who swallow this stuff as more than just fun fiction, over and over, American Atheists has a question: do you want to buy a bridge? As with all fake Doomsday predictions, this one will fade, not grow, as the dreaded day comes near. That's because it's more profitable to talk about doom in the 2-3 year time frame, as opposed to the 2-3 month time frame, because the fools who bought your merchandise will remember it in months, but will forget about it in years.

Ahh yes, fools -- the victims of doomsayers for eons. Well, my friends, this day is for you. Happy December Fool's Day!

On December 22, 2012, after the world has not exploded, or been hit by a meteor, or been overcome by aliens, we will have a party just to make fun of the people who wasted time, stress, and money on this non-event, and we will immediately reset the clock for the next predicted end-of-the-world -- and there will be a next one."

Laugh

So, End of the World party and after-party party at my place?

War is an extension of economics and diplomacy through other means.

Economics and diplomacy are methods of securing resources used by humans.

Securing resources is the one necessary behavior for all living things.

War = Life

I don't believe the world is going to end on Dec 21,2012 and I personally don't know any Christian that does.

The day the earth may end is only relevant, if you havn't gotten your soul prepared for the day.
I wish I had a dime for everytime the end of the world was going to happen. But a penny for everyone not ready for that day would make you more money. I'm not near as worried about some fateful day, when we all go in one gigantic flash. I'm worried about the Drunk driver, or punk gang member at the super market, or the ol ticker saying "thats all folks". Who cares about Dec 21, 2012, if you are a heartbeat away now, and aren;t ready to meet God?

Yeah, its all based on the Mayan calendar. But the Mayan calendar is carved in stone. My guess is that it is less likely to be the end of the world, and more probably where the Mayans ran out of rock to carve.

P.S.

I say lets enjoy this new harmonic convergence.
I bet this next 28 day cycle is
going to be rough at the end of it, at the end of this next month.
If anyone ends up feeling like a storm cloud is hanging over their head let me know.

“Living backwards!” Alice repeated in great
astonishment. “I never heard of such a thing!”
“—but there’s one great advantage in it, that one’s
memory works both ways.”

The Mayan calendar isn't a doomsday countdown. The mayans used two systems of calendars, the short count and the long count. Dec 2012 is the end of this long count which is counting down to when their God, Quezetcotl, is suppose to return.

There are changes that are suppose to happen within the Earth during this period as well. The changes are based on astronomical observations made by the mayans over centuries.

There's no doomsday. We will be celebrating 2013. And I don't think Quezecotl will be making an appearance.

Dawkins thinks belief in God is an excuse to evade thinking in the scientific world. Sadly, he is ignorant to the list of christian scientists who have contributed & founded many of the sciences he himself believes in. How ironic.

As a Christian, you must be looking forward to your death, right?

I rarely see a Christian who is actually looking forward to dying, yet it would seem that death is the most amazingly awesome event imaginable for them. I often wonder if most Christians really believe they're going to heaven as strongly as they think they do.

"All of our behavior can be traced to biological events about which we have no conscious knowledge: this has always suggested that free will is an illusion."

Well look what the cat dragged in. Where ya been at Smokey? I thought you got smoked. lol

By "astronomical observations" I take it you mean planetary alignment? Just so you know, the planets can never align perfectly. It'll be close though. But I'm curious as to how you might think a near alignment could impact Earth?

"The clock is ticking, brothers and sisters, counting down to Armageddon. The worm reveals himself in many guises across this once great land; from the intellectual elite cruelly indoctrinating our children with the savage blasphemy of Darwin, to the craven Hollywood pagans, corrupting them in the darkness of the local bijou, from the false prophets cowering behind our nation's pulpits to the vile parasites in our banks and boardrooms and the godless politicians, growing fat on the misery of their constituents. The signs of the end times are all around us, etched in blood and fire by the left hand of god. You have but to open your eyes, brothers and sisters. The truth is that the Devil is here. The Anti-Christ, the Child of Lies, the Son of Darkness walks among us cloaked in the flesh of a man. Does the Lord not weep at this degradation? Does He not tremble with righteous fury? And shall he not seek retribution? I open my eyes and I see a black sky that tears apart and screams with a voice that is thunder, 'Rise up, rise up brothers and sisters and take your place at my side. For you shall be my scythe and your face shall shine like a thousand suns and the streets shall be sanctified by the steaming black blood of the heretics.' And together brothers and sisters, together we shall build a shining temple, a kingdom that will last for thousands and thousands of years."
