I was diagnosed with sleep apnea three years ago and warned that the medicine prescribed might cause problems with my teeth...might...wow...my theeth are so bad now I can't eat anything hard like apples, or even chunk cheese. Pastas, soup, and rice is about all I can handle these days. Recently became unemployed...laid off...and no longer have insurance. In any case I have been able to take care of my teeth...or whats' left of them.. with a daily regimen of brushing, gargling salt water, and swishing with hydrogen peroxide full strength. so no pain...until one month ago eating crusty pizza, a portion of one tooth broke off leaving a ..."spire" as it were.. sticking up above all my other teeth on my left side...now that tooth is giving me huge problems. Be fine one day..chew something the wrong way and it hurts for days afterward. Feeling more pain in my jaw bone than in my tooth...now feeling pain in my jaw right side and down my throat. even my tounge hurts...Cannot afford a dentist but must ask...if anyone knows...do you think infection is in my jawbone? Spread maybe to both sides of my jaw? hopefully not but I value your opinions...money is really really tight right now so if anyone can give me an answer or a clue I would greatly appreciate your help...

Thank You!

I am sure by now you are better Lightwolf. I thought I would share a remedy though that has always cleared up any tooth infection I have had in the past and just recently as well. Like you I was laid off and had no insurance 3 years ago and of course my tooth acted up. They wanted me to have a root canal done by a specialist which I could definitely not afford. I will never have to have a root canal in my life because to clear up the infection we are all capable of.

Goldenseal - 3 capsules every three hours
Garlic Tincture - 3 full droppers in water or juice every three hours
Rose Hips - 2-3 droppers in juice or water every three hours
Hot Cayenne Tincture - 3-7 drops 2 or 3 times a day.

Within a day the pain starts to recede. 24 hours later you can do more than just handle the pain. My infection was painless within 2 days. The tooth was still sensitive but no more pain. I usually on the third day cut down to twice a day taking 3 capsules of Goldenseal. But keep the rest the same. I do this for about 4 to 5 days and it all clears up. Depending on the severity of an infection you may want to go a bit longer.

The Goldenseal and Garlic is a natural antibiotic. Garlic is also an astringent. The hot Cayenne is a blood cleanse and the Rose Hips is a natural vitamin c that the body assimilates much better than store bought vitamin c.

Peroxide is of course good but also baking soda as a mouth wash will help for the bacteria to not multiply. All you need is a tip full of backing soda on the spoon with about 4 or 5 ounces of water. It does not taste good but works great. You can also drink it for bladder infections to help stop the spread of bacteria.

I will never have to have a root canal again.

Truth is stranger than fiction, because fiction has to make sense.

When I retired I lost the Delta Dental coverage and eye exam coverage, which were really not that great anyway. The dental I could have paid to continue, but it costs about $90 month for both of us, or almost $1100 per year, but in only covers $2000 annually at 50%. We gave it up, as when working it was very cheap. We do go for regular cleaning, 2 times a year, paying out of pocket for that is about $400 total for both of us twice a year. For the little coverage you get, its not worth paying for dental insurance, it just isn't cost effective.

As for eye exams, paying for it outright was about $45, but I was better off buying from a Lenscrafters or discount glasses place, becasue the mark up on buying from the plan providers was a joke. Any medical issue with the eyes, ends up being covered by our medical insurance, so the vision care plans really are not worth buying.

Bottom line is you are probably better off without either coverage. As often as a root canal or crown work is needed, the premiums you would waste in years you only need routine cleaning, is $700 a year down the drain.

Ouch, I'm soooo sorry! I don't know where you live, but often times there are dentists that will do work for free. Maybe talk to the local University or maybe the DSHS office? I am not a doctor or nurse so I can't offer any medical advice. It sounds like you may be ready for dentures. I've known a few people who had them and they loved them.

I HATE dentists! As a child I had many teeth removed because my jaw could not afford all the teeth that were growing in. One time they ran out of the gas. That sucked!

BTW...Where is the art???? I need to see more paintings! 😛

Lightwolf, why couldn't your sleep apnea be corrected with a Cpap or Bpap breathing machine, instead of medication that hurt your teeth?

I have a CPAP machine greeny but it doesn't work for me...the shifting of the mask keeps me awake and the pressure on my teeth is more than I can stand as I have to have the mask so tight around my mouth to try and keep it from shifting...also tried the "nose pillow" but I can't btreath through my nose so THAT doesn't work....been using the "Breath Right" nasal strips and while that helps my sleep...I still have the problem with my teeth...

To Nes...
Hiya Nes! Thanks for the suggestion...I'll look into it. I believe there is a dental school nearby so I'll let ya know...
as for the art...haven't had alot of time to work on any as most of my time these days is spent looking for a job and filling out applications online (apparently paper no longer exists...sheesh!)

I do have some I did a year ago so I will see if I can find and upload a couple for you...Thanks for asking!
