I’m just back from Uzbekistan where I was engaged in upgrading of the Navoi international airport facilities. Now it’s emerging as most vital logistics hub in Central Asia. It was quite captivating piece of job but frankly there were some worrisome oddities….
Local staffers we had to deal with were scary of mass dismissals. They say there have been series of such dismissals recently, which is viewed as quite fishy thing. There are strong rumors that Navoi airport is being exploited as vital transit facility in heroin traffic from Afghanistan to Europe. It appears that fabulous profits are pickpocketed not only by Americans (more exactly by the top American brass in Afghanistan) but by Uzbekistan big potatoes as well.
BTw employee layoff in Ministries of Internal affairs and the one of Customs in Uzbekistan only add more meat to such suspicions. Me and my colleagues, we think that last hurdles on the way of the heroin traffic from Afghanistan now gaining strength are just being removed. That’s really bad news imho!
