This is a political hot potato. It was predicted long ago that BO would re-introduce the draft. But this bill was sponsored by the soon-to-be ex-Representative Charlie Rangel. Many on the left know this bill would bring buku jeers from the left and right if it made it into the public consciousness. I suspect it will be defeated. Nobody wants to be a part of the mess in Afghanistan (just like Vietnam). The war on terrorism seems more like a practice war. We aren't playing to win, just playing.

Having said that, I think universal military service is a double-edged sword. It may border on a violation of certain freedoms. But, there are benefits. Military training & education is superior to any other. Take a useless slob and turn him into something. That's what America needs badly. America has too many fat, useless bums.

Every teenager needs to wake up to, "What's your major malfunction numbnuts!?"

Though I don't deny the benefits of military-like discipline, forcing people to join the military or serve theilitary in civilian capacity is still a kick in the rights. I think if they tried to bring the draft back at this point there would be the kind of armed response the government would not like, mainly from their own people. It's time to pull out of Afghanistan and watch, and wait.
