This is my pet peeve this week: automated polling calls to my home.

"If the [state] senate race were held today
would you vote for
[Democrat candidate] press 1
or
[Republican candidate] press 2

If undecided press 3"

Its unfair to all the other candidates in this state first because they are left out of the numbers and second because its a blatant misprepresentation of reality and third that misrepresentation is adverstisement for keeping things the same old status quo leaving 2 major corrupt parties in control of our country's destiny

Bloody Eck.

Ever since I pitched my land line and use my cell phone as my home number, most of the harassing calls have stopped.

It's a pretty ridiculous poll, but, I 'm guess the people that would take the time to answer are the hard liners. Maybe that's who the pollsters are trying to get the numbers on.

The poll is essentially a classic Either/Or fallacy, where an artificially limited range of options is presented. Also called a false dilemma or Black-or-White fallacy.

I think in cases of polls like this it's sheer journalistic laziness. But I agree it's also negligent.

Yeah, it's like...

"If you think the sky is pink, press 1." "If you think the sky is green, press 2." "Press 3 to repeat the options."

My problem is every election the two major parties don't want you to know there are other parties in the race, these telepoll are lopsided the debates are generally closed and news coverage is also nearly non existent. Next to that they throw legal hurdles in the way to stop third parties from running. A corrupt system that ensures a status quo of corruption.
