They say that electronic media..specifically the net is killing paper based media..that it's a goner.

I don't believe this (not yet, at least)..

I, for one love a good magazine, newspaper, BOOK in my hands..I love that it doesn't glow, is kinda heavy, and can go easily anywhere (including the toilet)

I love the organicness of it. The simpleness of it. It feels...calming..in some way.

I was just reading my latest purchased 'Redbook' mag today (I like 'More' alot, too) and just loving the heck out of it.
Enjoying curling up on my couch with it. Reading articles..smelling fragrances, etc.

I realize paper media will cut back a-lot, to share the satge with all the electronic stuff..but I believe paper (though, severely reduced) is here to stay

Maybe as an aquired taste ?(for those in the future that will have to seek it out..to us oldies, as in an oldie form of human, since I am convinced some human mental shift is going on..like a big 'jump' specieswise..evolution..for the good or bad of it.. anyway..for us oldies it WAS the norm for a WHILE)?

Personally, I know glowy stuff like my PC or Kindle is totally screwing my eyes over in a way that reglar old paper does not, for instance. It's a nice break form that, at the very least.
It's also so much more ..tranquil..for some reason.(maybe one cannot turly relax when being blasted with electromagnetic energy?)

thoughts?

Willie Wonka quotes..
What is this Wonka, some kind of funhouse?
Why? Are you having fun?

Personally, I'm that way with games and films. While I couldn't care less about whether magazines/newspapers/books are in paper or digital format, I can't stand the thought of movies and games being completely digital. I have to own a hard copy, and I don't think I'll ever change my mind.

Digital information is always easier to transport than hard info, but it doesn't hold the same sentimental value. One wrong click, or an easy malfunction of the system, can leave you absolutely dataless. It's fine for someone like me, who rarely reads, and prefers things in a more animated light... but it still sucks when it eventually happens to all of us.

Interestingly enough, I've never felt that way with music though... I'll always be a pure pirate when it comes to that I guess.

I think Bionic may have a real valid concern, and when we are completly on paperless media, it could be the total loss of any freedom. Just look now what the digital media has turned into, and how we have been controlled by much of it. Anyone wonder why our forum on the War and terrorism died down, yet we still are in Iraq, and Obama has escalated in Afganistan and Pakistan? Al Frankens speech the other day confirmed what I had said all along, that our previous band of relentless posters have disappeared after the years of going after Bush. Franken spoke about the "Progessive" movement and how the internet was how he got into office. It appears to have been a Democratic mission to control the people with people posting boloney endlessly, on every message board and avenue on the internet. Mission accomplished, it was all to get control of the White House and the Congress, and it worked.

We may not like our newspapers, but they do it the old fashioned way, with reporting, and verified sourses hopefully, not by out of control copying of anything from anywhere, not knowing if it came from credible places, presented by vehiment posters, who argue to the death over contrived lies. We watched it for years with Bush right on this board, and even had the worse say "I don't care if its a lie, proove it wrong". Meanwhile chasing down that lie, he posted 10 more, and 10 more, and dribble by dribble an election is swayed by liberal left, based on lies via the internet.

So Bionic is right, what happens when all media is on the internet only? You can't buy a printed book anyplace, and we have already gone to computerized banking and ATM cards, all our medical is wide open on the internet? They will be able to delete and alter, any newsstory, or what you get to read on that internet. God know what they would be capable of playing games with you speaking out, with your online accounts and balances. All of a suden you are 3 payments behind on your car the day after you say something on a message board. Al Franken was afraid of the government control of the WEB, and so am I but his reasons were becasue the liberal used it wrongly, to sway the last election. What they did to Bush, they continued with McCain/Palin, with bloggers doing character assasinations of both, in a well engineered election campaign, misusing the internet IMHO. And it all began with a so called "progressive movement". They will use "going green" as good reason to go away from paper use, and gain control of you with the internet.

It doesn't just appear. It's a fact.

For example it was just revealed to the public (yet not reported by any establishment media including 95% of the newspapers and magazines) that as soon as McCain announced Palin as his running mate, the "unbiased" reporters all hatched a plan to destroy her; paint the Conservative Party as sexist; and label anyone who opposed Obama a racist. That plan worked too.

Journolist Exposes Ugly Liberal Conspiracy

The Liberal Progressives are omnipresent within the US media and they are shaping their news coverage using their own political bias. And when you have control of the schools, the media, the colleges and professors, you can indoctrinate the children and completely sway public opinion.

If not for a scant 2 or 3 small newspapers and a cable news channel (FOX) we would all be constantly bombarded with Liberal Progressive talking points and bias.

The newspapers and magazines we love so much? 99% of them don't even cover the stories that don't support their progressive view.

Bring on the digital age! Down with the establishment media and its progressive agenda!

Think back on who were our regular Bush Bashers from the Gore Election onward, and McCain/Palin bashers. All disappeared now, and where did all the anti-war stuff go? We are still in a war with Obama, but where is the outrage for Obama. Like I said they all disappeared, and our war forum died, when they all left.

Oh yes, as much as you and I were labeled conspiracy theorists for even hinting at the suggestion that they all had a collecive agenda.... it became quite obvious our suspicions were correct when Obama was elected and they all went *poof* into the darkness...

They succeeded but only short term. It's just a matter of time before the regular joes finally wake up to what is happening and get pissed off.

I agree with bionic, I love paper media. It's a renewable resource, it feels good and I love the smell of a new book.

As for Palin haters, well I'll tell ya something. I didn't like her the first time I heard her speak live on television. She sounded like an idiot and I didn't agree with anything she had to say in her speech. If she were the last candidate on earth I would have voted for myself than vote for her.

I just choose to not keep rehashing old poo, preferring to let it lie.

If I remember correctly, since the old site isn't archived yet, you were a huge supporter of the wars and the murders and the torture.

I HATE obummer and I HATE bush! War is a racket and rarely needed. Currently, the only place the US needs to fight a war is on our border with Mexico.

Everything that came out of obummer's mouth, while he was on the campaign trail, was a lie. I knew it then, I know it now.

Al Franken is a comedian/actor.

The "old fashioned" newspapers no longer exist. They're owned and controlled by corporations. Just look at the history of hemp and how the "news" corporations propagandized the American public against the hemp paper that our Constitution was written on, all in the name of anti-Capitalistic commies.

Greeney, this isn't about left/right...dems/repubs....etc. This is an Us vs. them, but the them is not what you believe. The them are the same thems who stole my Grandfather's business. Those thems are the same war mongers who murder innocent people and call it "collateral damage". Those thems are the same thems you retired from.

So... "us" vs. those who fight for the likes of William Randolph Hearst, Nesaie?

Yes, Hearst is one of the bad guys. He owned stock in lumber with Warehouser, when a new technology came out that made it easier and cheaper to use hemp for paper. These types of people will stop at nothing to control competition, for they're commies, not Capitalists. I always have to wonder, what really happened with his daughter Patty? Was she part of MKULTRA? We'll never know.

I live in a city run by a Hearst propaganda paper. I rarely buy it, and even less than that do I actually read it. I certainly never believe it.

Propaganda, like eugenics, was started in the US. Hitler took those concepts and ran with them. Then, just look at the genocide that was committed on these shores against the Indigenous populations.
