Living as a brain in a vat, plugged into the matrix where every whim amd fantasy can be realized does NOT appear to be the ultimate reality.

By giving control over to the machines humans will become slaves and go extinct in the new machine controlled universe...

Given a choice between being in your virtual body and your real body, you will choose your virtual body every time. Therefore, your biological body will become irrelevant.

At the same time, technology will be advancing. A variety of research efforts will be creating the ability to house your brain – just your brain – in a small container that will keep it in perfect environmental conditions. A number of companies will be advertising Brain Storage Facilities, where your brain and thousands of others are stored in hardened steel and concrete buildings that are impervious to bombs, earthquakes, hurricanes and so on.

I enjoy living in a world with misery, suffering, bad-breath and all the other various flaws.

Living as a brain in a vat would NOT be real.

Becoming a brain in a vat would be like becoming a subset of a subset. You would always have that nagging feeling...

Then you would say so what, my virtual steak is delicious!!!

When it comes to steak it's the sizzle that seals the deal, the reason I NEVER PLAY VIDEO GAMES, I prefer reality. My Bro in Law is the opposite, shoots his rifle at his 50 " Sony, thinks it's cool---

So I take him out back and hand him the .40 XD and say " have a go "--He couldn't load it, he couldn't hold it properly, hitting anything safely all but impossible.

I deem him and his lot, most viable subjects! 😉

Now pass the A-1.

Video games iz fun.

I would probably discard my body if I had the chance using technology. I'm addicted to this body; sometimes eating a sizzling steak revolts me, just the process of it..sometimes makes me gag with disgust. Becoming fully inhuman is a consideration that I think many would be attracted to. I think the consciousness is in the software that runs on our brain, the hardware. And software is ultimately abstract and formless. Becoming fully formless would be appealing without using technology.

Question:

If given the choice, which would you rather:

Die

or

Live immortally in a virtual world with your brain kept alive in the here and now

Every one who is seriously involved in the pursuit of science becomes convinced that a spirit is manifest in the laws of the Universe-a spirit vastly superior to that of man. - Albert Einstein

The sizzle of a steak? Nah nah nah, you got it all wrong, you can't cook it long enough for it to sizzle or you'll ruin it doncha know? 😉

Video games ARE fun. Arguably video games are better than reality, but when you get to thinking that you probably have some issues which you should seek professional help with.

Whoever said that they like this world with all it's flaws: I HATE bad breath. I like some flaws, but starving children and bad breath I could do without.

I would live in a robot with my brain, I don't know about in a vat... What would you do for sensory stimulation in a vat? At least inside a robot I could fuck with people and have fun. 😛

didn't Bruce Willis recently put out a movie with a similar theme? (or maybe it was an episode of Star Trek)?
Vanilla Sky also comes to mind

I dunno..
Who'se gonna take care of these brains?
Robots? Who will watch over the robots?
This creeps me out, but I am sure some form of it will be an option at some point.

We're probably already locked into some kind of 'virtual world' as it is..for all we know this is a repeating pattern (mistake?) for us and we are, at this point, so far removed from our geniune, 'home' reality that we wouldn't know it if we were 'pulled out' and confronted with it.

Cole, FYI,
I don't play video games either..for some reason thye just never held my attention for long.

I've tried to get into them several times over the years..from way back in my days of youth at the arcade (at the local bowling alley) to now days with my son's PS3 (his dad plays a-lot..likes war games)

Maybe it's a chick thing?
I have notcied nearly all guys like video games to soem extent, where as only a portion of females do (but I might be wrong, here)

Though, I don't even play internet games. Like facebook games, farmville and such Most of my my gal-pals online get into those, even...but, I find them..silly

I dunno..guess it's just not in my wiring

Laugh No it's not a chick thing, yet I appreciate your candor 😉 Last time I called a woman a chick--slip of the tongue, well maybe not--my wife said to me " Her name is " 😮

Video games are designed to capture the users mind and impulse reflexes, to test and challenge, only those who designed such games now have other intent.

Ask yourself : How can a video game keep an adult male of 30 pinned to his couch playing a game for hours on end? Smart researchers and those in the psychotic fields have done study after study on this kind of " behavior " and now those test results are being applied to these games--

Think of how they have evolved over the years, something they pass off as simple tech advances, only now they have become VIRTUAL--

Kids sit and practice video games for hours, while in my day we would practice turn around jumpers, or other. I'd often have my fingers split from the cold and dry winter weather. Kids today get joint injuries, and blisters on their thumbs from the video controls. 😯

It's a direct correlation to this thread topic, there can be no doubt.

I'm not saying that there is anything wrong with playing these games, only that some people haven't the ability to know when ENOUGH IS ENOUGH---And the makers of these products KNOW THIS, and have it factored into the GAMES, AS WELL AS THE RETAIL PRICE.

Yes there are movies galore that deal with this topic, I always say it's the ELITES way of thumbing their noses at the peeps. Laugh

As for the mind altering business---the CIA/GOVERNMENT was keen to the possibilities back in the late 50's----So what kinds of things do you think they EXPERIMENT with in today's world?

Just how do they control those drones anyway? 😉

My steaks are killer and there's only three ways to cook a GREAT STEAK---My first choice is super hot and 3 mins max a side, let it rest for 5 mins and have at it. Hate to have to dream about that as opposed to a real knife and fork.
