Print StoryE-mail StoryAKRON, Ohio — UPDATE: The last animal was caught Thursday night by a Summit County deputy.
A Summit County sheriff's deputy said she was attacked by a wolf hybrid earlier this week in Conventry Township near Akron.
Deputies responded to a call of three wolf hybrids on the loose after one of them attacked a female deputy Sunday night.
The owner of the animals said he bought them a few months ago.
"These are very unique animals and I like them better than dogs," said the owner, who does not want his named used.
All three of the Summit County man's wolves got out of their pen.
"I am really, really shocked they got out," he told ONN's Cristen Severance.
Sgt. Scott Cottle said a deputy was trying to coax the two female wolf hybrids to come to her when the attack happened.
"As she was trying to coax them to her, out of nowhere she gets hit like a blind spot by the male wolf," says Sergeant Cottle. "He's a very aggressive animal. He knocks her down and she was able to get her baton out of her belt. She knocked him in the throat and that's when he took off running."
The animal's owner doesn't think his pets were trying to hurt her.
"He's not a mean wolf," says the owner. "The deputy was kneeling down trying to get the two female wolves to come to her when the male came up from behind her. He kind of jumped on her, but even with us he does that. He is very playful."
Two of the three animals were caught and given back to the owner.
As of Wednesday night, the male wolf was still on the loose.
The owner and deputy's agree that if someone sees the animal, they should not approach it.
The owner was cited for allowing his animals to run at large, and he is no longer keeping them in an outside pen."

Seriously? What would a deputy be doing kneeling down to wolves!? Here, puppy?
What was she thinking....it wasn't one wolf, not two, THREE.

Guess not blues, I mean cmon that was just plain dumb. Even if it had not been hybrids, who kneels down to 3 large dogs they do not know the nature of!?
Here is a picture of my two dogs, Sage is the big guy, Alaskan Malamute and Arctic wolf, probably weighs in over 140lbs now. The other is Sky a female 100% Alaskan Malamute.
Sage is mixed wolf. His behavior is amasing though, best dog, like you said. Loyal, patient, and all about being loving. When I got Sky, heck he even lets her eat his food!
Most of the time he is free to run around because there is so much land, and he is NO threat, well not to people anyways, he's tried hunting deer, but he is too fat to run fast enough. My point though is that knowing the size and stature of my dog, I'd never be kneeling around an unknown hybrid, let alone 3 that I did not know. Haven't seen my dogs as much lately I'm in the cities, and my dad has been babysitting, although I do visit them when I can. Last summer they were never in the kennel you can tell, it looks like madagascar in there.

😆 Yeah it got out of control, but what can I say, weed whacking and lawn mowing was not my favorite thing to do. Need a man around for all of that. I take care of the inside of a house, yard work consists of planting flowers and laying out in the sun.

Might as well start my own company blues, girls gone wild cleaning. 😉 😕
Just hope the dog got home ok, not like he bit the officer or anything, just jumped on her as she was kneeling, alot of dogs would do that, and here this was making headline news. Because it was a hybrid. Up north I know animal control goes around looking for loose pit bulls, they will take them down a deserted road and shoot them. They are outlawed in some areas, and people still get them and let them run loose. Infact a year ago I had a girl riding her bike with her pitbull loose running next to her, they were riding in the property line and my dog tackled her pit bull, only pinned it, and she started flipping out on me....well all I could say was 'listen Sage is not hurting your dog, but it would be best of you stay off the property with another male dog, what do you expect!!??

Stupid deputy, stupid owner, stupid media, smart doggies. You would think that someone who wanted to keep such hybrid animals would research what they're like, but apparently not. Wolves differ from domesticated dogs in exhibiting strong problem-solving skills. A simple cage latch would not offer a real obstacle, it would be a minor annoyance.
Sandra, you would have loved Princess. We got her (already named) at about 3 years old from an animal shelter in California, a 70-lb female 'Alaskan sled dog' believed to be malamute/husky/wolf. Gray and white with ice-blue eyes, about 24" at the withers, her paws could pass the 6-foot mark at full stretch. Sweet, intelligent, quiet and well-behaved, she took to us as though we'd raised her from a pup. I think she'd been harness-trained, she understood the commands. No clue who her previous owners were, Princess had two quirks: she hated men in uniform and was aggressively possessive of squeaky toys: with a baby on the way, we couldn't risk keeping her any more. We found a good home for her, I hope she had a happy life.
'GGW cleaning'... get out your day planner, sandra, between me and blues you're gonna need it. 😎
