"Out of the mouths of babes"... 😀

I was helping my grandson Michael with his homework tonight, which involved spelling...not his favorite..."I hate spelling! I don't need letters!"

"Of course you do Michael..with no letters, there are no words, no talking to people, no good jobs when you grow up."

He put down his pencil, looked me dead in the eye, and very serious said...

"I don't need to talk! I don't need a good job! I'll just be a Police Ociffer!"

I hit the floor Laugh

There's some truth to that. Of course, being a police officer is one of the worst jobs on the planet. It's either mundane and boring, or, your life is on the line. Not good.

Sadly, most adolescents have no use for grammar or spelling. We even have business "professionals" at work that send emails to customers that read like text-speech from a 10-year-old. It makes my stomach turn because I can see the trend and the inevitability.

And over and over I see news reporters, artists in the entertainment world, politicians, et al... use blatantly incorrect grammar. One of the most misused phrases of all time is "and I." Watch for it. You'll see it happens ceaselessly.

Everyone seems to think that "and I" instead of "and me" is always correct. No. "and I" is to be used only if the pronoun and the "and" can be removed but the sentence still makes sense.

Example: "Did you see that text Brian sent to you and I?" Nope. If you remove "you and" it reads, "Did you see that text Brian sent to I?" So the proper usage is "you and me."

Oh well, I'll stop, but it's (obviously) a pet peeve of mine.

Indeed my friend! I heartily agree!
My District Manager...a "Professional" (yeah) one would think his education would be such that the communication skills at his command, he being in a position of high management, be exemplary, above reproach, however, it's quite the opposite!

My mornings are filled with the humor involved in trying to translate his emails into something resembling the English language, or at the very least, written by an adult...but sadly...not to be 🙄

When the word "ain't" appeared in the dictionary as another meaning for the word "not" and not referred to as "slang", I knew the English language I hold so dear...is dissapearing forever

May God help us all 😯
