Wait a minute. Wait just one minute on this.
by Erick Erickson
Tuesday, June 8th at 4:58PM EDT

We’ve heard the quote from the President. Now read it.

  • “I don’t sit around just talking to experts because this is a college seminar. We talk to these folks because they potentially have the best answers so I know whose ass to kick.”

No seriously. Read it again.

  • “I don’t sit around just talking to experts because this is a college seminar. We talk to these folks because they potentially have the best answers so I know whose ass to kick.”

He is talking to experts not to find out how to solve the problem but to find out whose ass to kick? Seriously?

That is the President of the United States in his own words.

There is one well leaking caused by the collapse of one platform owned by one company.

Not only has Barack Obama not once talked to the CEO of that company, his big donor British Petroleum, he overreacted and shut down every company’s offshore drilling — every single one. He put, effective immediately, tens of thousands of people on the unemployment line.

And in the President of the United States own words, he’s not talking to experts to figure out how to solve the problem, but to figure out who to assign blame to.

This is not leadership. Heck, this isn’t even bullying. This is failure.

I'm suprised he hasn't blamed America. Oh wait a minute, he has. His administration has blamed Bush for this oil spill. I guess it is just a matter of time until he apologizes to the world for our oil addiction.

Man 2012 is sooooo far away. I really hope we can nueter this guy thru 2010 elections to slow down this madness.

Counterpoint: Thirty-three DRILLING RIGS were shut down. There's over 3,800 active platforms in the US portion of the Gulf.

Gibson Consulting

NOAA

It's only finger-pointing if there's no valid reason. Guys, I really, really think that the worst oil well disaster in US history qualifies as a valid reason.

Yeah, all this talk about Obama talking to the "experts" to "know whose ass to kick" is downright stupid. Obama can talk all he wants about desiring to kick someone's ass, but the point is: He hasn't kicked anyone's ass. Him and his administration has only been complicit in covering up for BP since Day 1 (actually, since Day 20-something considering he was incredibly disengaged from the whole disaster). Instead of overhauling the complete offshore drilling system in general, the administration instead puts out "new safety guidelines" to help "ensure that nothing like this ever happens again".

This is pandering to the extreme. That pronouncement clearly underlines the US political establishment's subservience to the oil industry. The only moratoriums that have been placed on offshore drilling have been the ones in shallower waters than the DeepWater Horizon- but there are rigs that operate in deeper waters than BP's.

All BP is doing right now is seeing how much profit they can collect to distribute to shareholders from "oil skimming".

Sick.

No one mentioned "finger pointing" although the bigger point in all this is, there is a time to play the blame game and a time to buckle down--work conjointly with the guilty party if need be--and SOLVE THE PROBLEM.

It's the priorities that's the problem, not the fact that he's looking to blame someone. Of course it's important to find out who is to blame and punish them but that's not priority one right now. I'm sure even the tree-hugging liberal Mother Earthers would agree with me on that one.
