Yes I was caught with my pants down and was handed a disabled machine. A few dead braincells later, well many cells that is--lol-- I was able to arrest and kill the virus. Trust me, despite what anyone will have you believe it wasn't easy.

Ah yes I'm thinking of a public waterboarding for the a hole who wrote that code. What are the odds of him/her being a Mr Softie soldier of fortune???????????

My wife demanded that I call a professional, even when I told her that a Professional would demand money--payment to eradicate the virus, or even discuss it, she still insisted. So I called the OEM and put the Indian on Speaker phone right as he said $ 239.00 for a guaranteed fix and 1 year warranty............ Laugh Laugh Laugh Laugh

But wait we can do it for $ 139.00 and give you 72 hours of free support...hehehe.......CLICK as I hung up the phone.

Anyway keep those firewalls up and that software updated unless of course you love the mental abuse of finding hidden code/files/folders/programs. Not to mention the guts to enter the registry and start poking around.

What was it, that lousy "Windows 7 Security Suite" that tries to pass itself off as an anti-virus?

Last one that hit me posed as an Adobe Acrobat update... I was in a hurry and just clicked yes, yes, install.

Brilliant. It cost me about 2 hours of fixing it and then an all night deep scan just to make sure it was gone.

About 2 weeks ago my sister in law had a virus that she had to take in to get fixed. Don't know details other than it came in via an email.

The Culprit was the 2012 version of the XP Antivirus. It was nasty because it seemed to morph while it worked it's way through the machine--first disabling some--not all .exe and .dll applications----I'm sure it disabled the Firewall first, they took out the Windows recovery console, then the Browser----------yet it allowed for private searching just long enough to learn that this wasn't going to be an easy fix.----------Especially when you can't find the file because the damn thing is hidden, or has some whacked out sarcastic sort of name. lol

I spent a good while searching for it and finally ( I think anyway ) found it hiding in a document application. Anyway---it just strikes me as being insane the MSFT knows about these things yet for some reason--( in my opinion ) turns a blind eye toward them---pretty sure it's for the obvious economic reasons..

Anyway I use a $25.00 tool to remove it and rebuild the recovery system, clean out and restore the registry-----------It's virus protection seems to be a really good application. I'd highly recommend it to anyone in need.

I know of a few other attacks of the exact same virus--all on Thursday of last week---One used Malwarebytes--free download to kill it--only they had to run it on another machine, copy to disc and then run it in the infected PC.---LOL--Just a real pain in the rear.

Yeah, I've delt with that virus too. Malwarebyte's has caught it luckily, and the new Zone Alarm I got does a decent job at keeping it off my PC.

Glad you got rid of it, bro.
