let me throw something at you..
The Earth, which is due a pole shift, not a flip, a shift, fyi..a slight movement, she could have done it in a moment..needing a slight re adjustment, to achieve.. balance.
Even as slight as it is, doing it all at once, would have caused such a catastrophy as to wipe out much of life.
So..what to do
a sudden shift..horrible events over a tiny period of time?
or..no..tiny little shifts, barely noticable, over a longr period of time.
Still causing catastrophies, as that cannot be avoided.
Going on for about ten or twenty years or so
but when done..tada..shift complete
what you can do abruptly with carnage, you can due subtly with mercy
I believe as awful as things seem, fate is showing mercy
it could have been a-lot worse
not all out ice age..areas will heat up, areas, will cool off, land will, rise, land will fall..life will go on..if you're in an area that is looking to be more volitile in the comign years..it's time to think of migrating to greener pasteurs
be thankful, be gracious
care for each other care for your planet
just conduiting and speculating

that's a cool meme, huh?

This is a theory we areoverdue for a magnetic pole change, but how do they know, and how have the prooved it happened before?

If it were to happen, how would that affect our electronic world? If the earth poles changed ends would that affect all electrical things from your home AC current, to things that operate on batteries that are DC current? Would it even have any affect at all to anything? Overdue to happen could mean +/- 100,000 years.

Found this informative article about pole shift at NASA's site...

http://www.nasa.gov/vision/earth/lookin ... field.html

Apparently the north pole is indeed moving/shifting at a rate, until recently, of about 10 km per year. Larry Newitt, of the Geological Survey of Canada says that recently it has accelerated to 40 km per year; it's his job to track the pole shift. They somehow measure the magnetism of ancient rocks to ascertain evidence that north and south poles have swapped places(pole reversal) in the past; the study of earth's past magnetism is called paleomagnetism. It says these pole reversals seem to occur at an average rate of 300,000 years apart with the last one being 780,000 years ago; raising the question of whether we are, in fact, overdue for another. I think those facts in no way hurt the theory that we are overdue, but, as with the climate-change business, it's a mistake to generalize and read too much into stats. when dealing with the sheer amount of time/data involved with paleomagnetism; bottom line - WE JUST DK. If earth's magnetic poles were to abruptly shift, the magnetosphere would no doubt be greatly affected; probably not to the benefit of life either, and there might even be "...a great earthquake, such as was not since men were upon the earth..."(Rev. 16:18).

This article at National Geographic goes a little deeper into the subject...

Ah, yes bionic, it would take quite a bit more time, but what's a few more centuries compared to the time that has elapsed since the last one. So, I suppose, your theory is valid technically; although I'm too ignorant of the science involved to give a definite opinion.
