Yesterday was brutal................I had to do some chainsaw work, I wear chaps-----------30 minutes was all she took................had to come out of em, and I stated at about 7:30 am.
30 inch White Oak log----------8 tons or so, hell maybe more----cut 6 nice 14 inch chunks to split about 200 lbs or more a piece..
Split by hand, wedges and a 5 lb axe.
I managed to split a rick maybe a bit more...5 liters of water...1 liter of Gator-ade.....
I rang my underwear out by hand...........sweat was rolling...soaked my jeans down to my knees, belt is still wet today..........This morning I went back at her again-----------split two more chunks...........hotter today----------I'm all done in..........can barely feel my fingers, forearms and biceps are like spun steel, my ass as tight as a tick!!!!!!!!
It's 97 out right now, Index of 110..............two months ago it was so wet you would soak yourself just walking across the yard, now you can't put a shovel in the ground!!!
Last nigh I sat out back in only my Hanes briefs------------We're taking hot here folks, no time for vanity.........
I haven't been this drained since I used to pour concrete-------but back then I'd recover in a few hours---------------now it might take a week!
Jesus-------------it's hot!

Actually your body adjusts to it quite easily if you do the things necessary for it to acclimate, if not, well.............could be fatal as around 100 folks have already found out..
Regardless it zaps your strength despite how careful and in sharp you really are, especially if you PUSH IT....I've seen some crazy stuff with this heat................mostly short tempers, and very little clothing................like I said vanity goes out the window when it stays like this for an extended period of time...Old timers say you stay cooler with more clothing as compared to less................I'm not sure about that one..........I can't imagine a long sleeved cotton shirt when it's 110 and humid as hell.........If you're directly in the sun, down in an area where there's no breeze...........well you're either a freak alien, or will soon be in a comma.
One 30 inch X 14 CHUNK left to split------I'll do that early-------a few minutes of chainsaw work and then I'm done until the next storm or until Late September when the first real good cold front sweeps thru.
Anyway---I'm very used to it now..........amazing really how the human body adapts, water and light foods with high water content are the key............Fruits and high protein foods are a must...........You can easily lose 4-5 pounds working out in this stuff--
As a Family we go thru about 3 cases of water a week and 1 case of Gator-aide. One hot mama here in Indiana.

I find I can't get out in the real hot sun working like when I was younger, plus I also say "screw this" it can wait for cooler weather. So I gagde my work accordingly, get something done real early or later in the evening, lay low during the heat and get something done inside. Heat Stroke can catch just about any age, but when you get older its easier. Also a little less hair on top I think has something to do with it.

What is this Wonka, some kind of funhouse?
Why? Are you having fun?
A little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men.
