I'm sure they'll just be censoring the really bad stuff ... at first.  European Commission press release...

European Commission and IT Companies announce Code of Conduct on illegal online hate speech

Brussels, 31 May 2016

The Commission together with Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and Microsoft (“the IT companies”) today unveil a code of conduct that includes a series of commitments to combat the spread of illegal hate speech online in Europe.
The IT Companies support the European Commission and EU Member States in the effort to respond to the challenge of ensuring that online platforms do not offer opportunities for illegal online hate speech to spread virally.  They share, together with other platforms and social media companies, a collective responsibility and pride in promoting and facilitating freedom of expression throughout the online world. However, the Commission and the IT Companies recognise that the spread of illegal hate speech online not only negatively affects the groups or individuals that it targets, it also negatively impacts those who speak out for freedom, tolerance and non-discrimination in our open societies and has a chilling effect on the democratic discourse on online platforms.

In order to prevent the spread of illegal hate speech, it is essential to ensure that relevant national laws transposing the Council Framework Decision on combating racism and xenophobia are fully enforced by Member States in the online as well as the in the offline environment. While the effective application of provisions criminalising hate speech is dependent on a robust system of enforcement of criminal law sanctions against the individual perpetrators of hate speech, this work must be complemented with actions geared at ensuring that illegal hate speech online is expeditiously reviewed by online intermediaries and social media platforms, upon receipt of a valid notification, in an appropriate time-frame. To be considered valid in this respect, a notification should not be insufficiently precise or inadequately substantiated.

Vĕra Jourová, EU Commissioner for Justice, Consumers and Gender Equality, said, "The recent terror attacks have reminded us of the urgent need to address illegal online hate speech. Social media is unfortunately one of the tools that terrorist groups use to radicalise young people and racist use to spread violence and hatred. This agreement is an important step forward to ensure that the internet remains a place of free and democratic expression, where European values and laws are respected. I welcome the commitment of worldwide IT companies to review the majority of valid notifications for removal of illegal hate speech in less than 24 hours and remove or disable access to such content, if necessary."...

Here is a recent article...

EU Commission & internet cos to take down online hate speech in 24 hours

The European Commission, along with Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and Microsoft have released a code of conduct (in effect from 31 May) which states that along with criminal law sanctions, online hate speech needs to be reviewed and removed (or blocked) within 24 hours by online intermediaries. This is applicable even for other social media companies which haven’t joined hands with the Commission. The 24 hour deadline of sorts comes into effect once a company is notified of the content, and needs to be “sufficiently precise or adequately substantiated.”

The Commission states that to prevent the spread of hate speech, its Member States need to fully enforce national laws with respect to racism and xenophobia both online and offline. It adds that although these companies, along with other social media platforms and companies believe in freedom of expression online, they agree that online hate speech ‘negatively affects’:
– groups or individuals it targets,
– those who speak for freedom and nondiscrimination and
– online democratic discourse

This is such crappola....gaslighting...censorship..ie....PC. A variation of PC/Political Correctness...and Political Correctness is censorship.

Though I knew enough not to get one of those accounts on Twitter, Facebook or whatever label they named themselves...I did not expect them to become extensions of government programs to enforce censorship.

I hate censorship.

Whatever they claim to be doing you can bet it is exactly the opposite with them being extensions or lackeys of government bureaucrats and or in bed with governments.

What they are in is the business of data collection and now censorship as an extension of government will...and policy.

They are going to be in the business of enforcing people in their own countries to take second, third, and fourth place or further down the line in their own countries and not having the ability to have their voices heard. This  is the policy of most Governments through out the world and today in particular in Europe. It is quickly becoming the open policy of the United States Government...censorship and control over their own people.

It has been the silent and unofficial policy of the United States Government for the last 8 years. That our people have little to no voice in the direction our affairs are taking and that we cede everything and anything to immigrants..legal or illegal. But first we must cede everything to government.

This today is called Leadership.

And now this policy of censorship is to be enforced by government lackeys in the Blog business.

By those running certain search engines.

And Hate Speech means anything which does not meet the approval of the Censors.

This is 180 degrees out from freedom of speech. A total reversal.

There have been attempts and stories about governments wanting control and censorship of the internet for years now since its start. Now we see the fruits of these attempts.

Da Tovarich???

Thanks,
Orangetom

I'll see if I can find it but there was some blurb in the news about California trying to pass a law about not being able to disagree with global warming.  That anyone who talks contrary to it could be prosocuted.  Thats crazy if that is what they are trying to do. We are not too far from that when the schools force you to have your kids hear certain things, like gay being an alternate lifestyle, and it is mandatory for the kids to have that class. It definatly is censoring a parents religious and individual belief of how a child should be raised, and at what age certain subject matter should be forced on them.

Apparently it's already here considering what happened to one man at a Brevard Co. school board meeting in Florida...

The story here...

Florida school board candidate hauled out of public meeting by police after saying ‘penis’

"A Florida school board candidate was carried out of a public meeting by police Tuesday night after he was accused of using inappropriate language while discussing the district’s transgender bathroom policy.

Brevard County deputies said Dean Paterakis used vulgarities while speaking at the podium and then refused the board’s demands to be quiet, a local Fox News affiliate reported.

According to a video of the exchange published by Florida Today, the “inappropriate” language appears to be the word “penis.”

“That’s what happened…we have a teacher who put his phone up on the big screen and showed, what the students say, was his erect penis,” Mr. Paterakis said in the video."...

The video shows the other parents chant, "Let him speak, Let him speak" and the board chairman threatens to clear the people from the room if they don't stop.  So it's okay for a teacher to show his penis to a class full of students but completely unacceptable to utter the word in a meeting of adult administrators and parents.  UN-BELIEVABLE  If we don't do something soon, I think it's coming.

The bill never proposed jail time for anyone that denied climate change/global warming, it just proposed that the act of spreading information contrary to scientific findings through businesses and organizations be considered an offense.

The bill died quickly, although it isn't surprising that something like this came from our state.

War is an extension of economics and diplomacy through other means.

Economics and diplomacy are methods of securing resources used by humans.

Securing resources is the one necessary behavior for all living things.
