By COLLEEN LONG and HARRY R. WEBER, Associated Press Writers – 28 mins ago

NEW ORLEANS – A tightly fitted cap was successfully keeping oil from gushing into the Gulf of Mexico for the first time in three months, BP said Thursday.

The victory — long awaited by weary residents along the coast — is the most significant milestone yet in BP's effort to control one of the worst environmental disasters in U.S. history.

Sweet!

Now get those relief wells finished, and end this once and for all!

Great news.

Yes, keep our fingers crossed that the cap holds and they can get this thing fixed for good.

I just hope we don't see a headline like: BREAKING NEWS -- CAP IS BREAKING

Where's mael? I wonder if he still thinks the death of billions is imminent.

I don't know if you ever saw my final statement in that thread. It's probably still the last statement in it.

A mild hurricane hit the Gulf of Mexico, soaked up a bunch of moisture right over the oil spill, and sent a ton of rain north into Houston and here in Dallas. That was as good of a test as you're going to get on Mael's claim. Not a single person died, or even got sick from the rain.

Yep, he'll think nothing of his claims of imminent mortal danger being false though, I'm afraid.

We should cut him some slack, guys. It's not often mael shows his humanitarian side.

As for BP getting the cap to work, I've a feeling that it will be offset by the alleged BP-Libya connection.

I think maelstrom is great, just wish he'd modify his thinking a little. Things are rarely even close to as bad as he thinks they are. Of course, he probably thinks the same about me.

Mael is smart and has a wonderful sense of humor. But, he's an alarmist, and that's ok. We all have our faults.
