Hello everyone,

I wanted to address a few points to you all, many of which that have been sensationalized, blown out of proportion, and simply used to attack me personally.

First off, this board is very secure. Your PERSONAL information that you choose to not make public is very secure here. I have always used, and continue to update, to the latest version of all scripts that run The Black Vault and it's message forum (they are two entirely seperate scripts)

The accusation it is insecure, I am a lazy moderator, or ignorant, is completely unfounded by the one lone member who decides to continue to cause problems. The self proclaimed "computer genius" who makes the accusations about the insecure place here -- continues to come on a near daily basis to trash me personally, my family, and the website. This should tell you how "unsecure" he really thinks this place is. 🙂

Secondly, your information is not "hackable." In fact, The Black Vault has never lost ANY personal data in the 15+ years it has been operational. I have been hacked a handful of times since the beginning, and some were successful . But the hacks only brought down the website -- no confidential data was EVER compromised which included passwords. Not a single user can ever say differently. I'd like to point out, it's been years since the last successful "hack" and even that was just bringing the site down, not compromising any data.

Thirdly, this site runs sophisticated programs in the background to ensure your data (not that The BlacK Vault stores banking/financial/etc. data anyway) is 150% secure. It also safeguards the site in its entirety as well, and safeguards hacks on MY OWN personal data. It's never been compromised... not a single time. ("Kiddie hacks" as I mentioned have 'defaced' the site in the past, or brought the site offline temporarily -- but to reiterate -- no personal data has ever been compromised)

Fourthly, I have been falsely accused of allowing avatars (those semi-unique images that identifiy our accounts) to be "hackable." Also, untrue. If you go to any site, including Facebook, YouTube, Myspace, Google, etc., you can easily save personal photos, pictures, images, and even avatars. Any REAL computer expert can tell you, the ability to save images has been around since the beginning of the internet -- and always will be. You have the ability to upload your own avatar here on The Black Vault (a feature not always available elsewhere), and it is given a filename once it is uploaded. This filename (URL) that points to your image can be seen like the web address to any site any corresponding photos. This is not hacking -- but normal internet features. Someone "stealing" your avatar is a "netiquette" violation, and in some cases maybe even a "copyright" violation -- but is not a sign of an insecure message forum, or evidence of a "hack." Those accusations are just silly.

I hope this better explains the rediculous and false accusations about my site, and my own personal ability to run it.

Perfectly explained. Thank you.

Indeed.

Contrary to what some people think, I know very little about hacking though I want to see more about how its done for the same reason security professionals do: to help secure MY data and confidential information.

What a load.

If anyone here cares to right click on anyone else's avatar and look at the location it's stored on, they will see that it's on the BV server and is associated with that members account. That's why it only comes up with the person's account when they're logged in.

As far as me being a self professed "computer genius", no, I'm far from it, but evidently I know more about PHP forums than the site owner here does.

Feel free to delete this John 'cause I know you will.

This forum is about as secure as a prostitute's underwear.

A few months ago AT1 (the one and only "tech" expert) was able to view posts in the Moderator's forums simply by clicking on "posts by" anyone who happened to be a moderator and then reading anything he wanted in the "Moderators" hidden forum ... I ask you, how secure is that? To me, that seems like a HUGE security loophole that went unnoticed for months until AT1 stumbled onto it. How many more loopholes are there?

The only reason this site hasn't been hacked more than it has, it because the real hackers no longer find it interesting/important enough to hack anymore.

Not surprisingly, you make it sound like you personally know this to be true.

Forgive me if I step out of line. This is an announcement thread that I don't mean to derail.

All I could see on greeney's profile was that his latest post was in the mod section, not what he said, contrary to what you believe. I could see the subject/thread title but that was it. I think it might have been about me but I forget now the details as they're not important.

And as soon as I noticed this, I posted a thread about it immediately to prevent this sort of spying. He probably remembers this thread I started on this, and he fixed it.

Either way, it was nothing I did. Certainly, I didn't hack anything.

hehehehe .. nice try at planting a seed there Tarty, but I'm as clean as a new born. I've got nothing to hide, search my IP, ISP records and see what you find. Btw, a proxy server can still be detected by and ISP, so your argument that I used a proxy server is out the door.

Speaking of proxy servers ... John would be served well by looking into a few of the members here and seeing if they've been using proxy servers to post under multiple accounts, 'cause I'm pretty sure that at least two of them are.
